According to sources familiar with the matter, Special Counsel Jack Smith has officially notified former President Donald Trump via letter that he is a target in the ongoing investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Target letters are typically issued to individuals under investigation, serving as a formal notification that they are at risk of being indicted. Prior to this, Trump had also received a target letter from Smith, which preceded his indictment by a grand jury in Florida. The charges in that case pertained to allegations of mishandling classified documents after his departure from the White House and alleged attempts to obstruct the government’s investigation.
