It’s finally here, you guys! Yep, after months of anticipation, Justin Bieber‘s new album, Justice, finally dropped on Friday, March 19, 2021, and we cannot stop listening to it! But there’s one song in particular that everyone’s talking about at the moment — and that’s “Ghost.” Why? Well, some people are convinced it’s about his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, so we decided to break down the lyrics once and for all.
Why Do People Think The Song ‘Ghost’ Is About Selena Gomez?
So it turns out, the track is all about losing someone that you love. As fans know, Bieber and Gomez first got together in 2011, and they quickly became one of the most talked about couples on the internet. They dated on-and-off for more than six years, before they called it quits in 2018.
“I miss your touch some nights when I’m hollow,” the pop star sings in the emotional new tune. “If I can’t be close to you / I’ll settle for the ghost of you / I miss you more than life (More than life) / And if you can’t be next to me / Your memory is ecstasy / I miss you more than life.”
Naturally, as soon as it came out, some fans started to speculate that it was inspired by the “Rare” songstress.
“Me running to listen to ‘Ghost’ by Justin Bieber because I need my #Jelena heart to be warmed for a little,” one fan wrote on Twitter, alongside a video of someone running. Another Twitter user added, “I love that #Jelena is still exists in 2021. Go stream ‘Ghost!'”

Someone even pointed out that Gomez has a song of her own called “Ghost of You” — coincidence? You decided.
So Was It Inspired By Their Relationship?
But other people are convinced that it’s actually not about Gomez after all, and that Bieber actually wrote it about a relative who passed away.
“I bet Justin’s song ‘Ghost’ is NOT about Selena. It’s probably about his family members who have passed away, or it’s just for the grief of COVID victims. I hate it when people still try to tangle them… I know I’m not the only one who’s glad Jelena is COMPLETELY OVER!” a third person wrote

When asked directly what the song was about during a Zoom call, Bieber told fans, “It is about losing somebody you love, and I know a lot of people have. I know this has been a really challenging year where we’ve lost loved ones and relationships, too. We’re not relating and connecting in the same way. It has allowed us to only really have these memories.”
Are There Any Songs About Hailey Baldwin On The Album
So the jury may still be out on his song “Ghost,” but there are some tracks on the new album that are definitely about his wife, Hailey Baldwin. Take the song “Deserve You,” for example. That one is about how grateful he is to have someone who stuck by his side, even during his darkest times.
“When I’m in my thoughts sometimes / It’s hard to believe I’m the person you think I am / The person that you tell me you love / I’m on my ten thousandth life / Nine thousand nine hundred nine and it slipped my hands / But this the one I’m not givin’ up / Night after night you fall asleep on me / I’m prayin’ that I don’t go back to who I was. I feel like I don’t deserve you tonight,” the lyrics read.
His song “Off My Face” is also believed to be about the model. In it he sings, “‘Cause I’m off my face, in love with you / I’m out my head, so into you / And I don’t know how you do it / But I’m forever ruined by you.”
Plus, the tune “2 Much” is also about being in love, so many people think he wrote it about Baldwin.
“I say ‘I love you’ under my breath / More times than you can digest / Music every time I hear your name, oh / Your head’s layin’ right on my chest / Sun’s up and I still ain’t got no rest,” the lyrics read. “Don’t wanna close my eyes, I’m scared I’ll miss too much / Don’t wanna fall asleep, I’d rather fall in love / When I can’t feel you, I feel out of touch / Two seconds without you’s like two months.”
Another song that caught fans’ attention is “Unstable.” That one is about someone who never abandoned him, despite his mental health issues. The star has talked about dealing with depression and anxiety a lot over the years, but Baldwin did not waver.
“Sometimes I think I overthink / And I start to feel anxiety / There were times I couldn’t even breathe / But you never once abandoned me,” he sings. “I tried to scare you, scare you away / Showed you the door, you adored me anyway / When I was broken in pieces / You were my peace of mind, you were my peace of mind.”
One thing we definitely learned from the album is that Bieber and Baldwin are as happy as could be together.
