When Did Shawn Mendes And Justin Bieber First Meet?
Their relationship actually dates all the way back to 2015, when Mendes gushed over how much he loved Bieber in an interview. At the time, another interviewer asked Bieber if he knew who Mendes was, but he admitted that he didn’t. Then, he decided to search him up and listen to his tunes, and he took to Twitter to gush over them.
“Checked out the music. Way to go buddy,” he wrote to Mendes.
One year later, when the musician released his debut album, Bieber took to Twitter to share his support again.
“Shawn Mendes’ voice makes me smile. Truly a gift to be able to move people’s emotions through songs. So proud of you brother, great album,” he tweeted.
In a 2018 interview, Mendes explained that it was an honor to be compared to Bieber.
“When I first started out, everybody was like, ‘Oh, how do you feel about being compared to Justin?’ I was like, ‘What do you mean, how do I feel?’ That’s the best thing anyone could say to me. He’s the man,” he said.
There Was A Brief Rivalry Between Them In 2019
Despite their close friendship, in 2019, when Observer Magazinecalled Mendes the “Prince of Pop,” Bieber wasn’t happy.
“Hmm. Gonna have to break a few more records to dethrone my title there bud (Canadian voice)… But if you want we can play hockey for it,” he commented on Instagram.
But the 26-year-old quickly left another comment, explaining that he was totally joking around! Phew!
“There is no competition,” he explained. “It was a playful joke people, relax. There’s no sides, we’re all just here to make dope music. I’m just competitive as he is so it was just a little playful jargon.”

Then, to make things even more suspicious, both of the stars were photographed entering the same studio on the exact same day one month later. Plus, when asked if he had worked on a new song with the “Love Yourself” crooner during a recent interview, Mendes gave a very suspicious answer.
“Is this you trying to confirm that I have a collaboration with Justin Bieber?” he responded. “If I turned one down, that would be insane considering he’s been one of my favorite artist since I was nine years old. Cannot confirm or deny.”
When Will Shawn Mendes’ New Album Come Out?
Mark your calendars, you guys, because the singer’s new album, Wonder, will drop on December 4, 2020.
“I think I’ve mainly evolved as a person and that’s kind of reflecting in the music,” Mendes explained to Radio.com about his upcoming tunes. “I think one thing that really kind of happen to me over the last six months is this real moment of reflecting and kind of looking at my own life, but also like being able to look at the world and not be so caught up in my career, my job, and my life, but I’m able to kind of look around see things a lot clearer for the first time.”
He added, “I feel like Wonder is in a lot of ways me just reflecting on my life, and life in general … I’ve never really done that before … probably because I didn’t have the mental capacity and clarity to even be able to reflect, and also probably because I was really scared of what people would think if I started to reflect in my music.”
