It’s been a tense week between Teen Mom 2‘s Kailyn Lowry and her ex Chris Lopez. The mother of 4 recently lashed out at Lopez on social media for taking drastic actions with one of their sons. Lowry then confirmed that Lopez does not have custody of son Lux, he only has supervised visits.

How did this drama all start?

In order to understand the situation with Lowry and Lopez, you have to go back to the beginning. The pair met in 2017, and not long after they started dating, the couple announced they were expecting a baby together. Teen Mom 2 fans were surprised at his abrupt appearance in her life, and curious about Lopez as a person. In 2018, Lowry and Lopez broke up soon after Lowry’s 3rd son and their first child together, Lux, was born. It should have been a sign of things to come, as Lowry called it quits due to Lopez’ lack of involvement with all things baby.

The former teen mom later explained, “Even the responsibility for all of the baby formula was left up to me. I kind of knew that this would be a possibility, but I guess I just wanted to be proved wrong. Is it too much to ask if the baby needs anything? Whether we were on good or bad terms, Chris could have at least asked if I needed help.”

Violent behavior emerged early from Lopez

Distractify reports, “According to the Hollywood Gossip, in one of her books she’s written, Kailyn alleged that Chris had ‘broken into her home and on another occasion, he broke a window in her bedroom.’ The relationship between the two of them was so volatile, when Lux was born, Kailyn changed his name from Lux Lopez to Lux Lowry. InTouch Weekly said that when Kailyn petitioned for the name change, Chris contested it, but the petition was eventually granted in April 2018.

Despite that, the two seemed to still be happy together. Kailyn told Us Weekly in January 2019, the two were close. ‘Chris and I are always together even when we’re not together, if that makes any sense,’ she said. ‘Don’t be surprised if you see a wedding in the tabloids next month.’”

Bliss takes a stumble in early 2019

Although they finished 2018 strong, by April of 2019 the pair was on the rocks again. By the end of 2019, they had even ceased co-parenting well. Lowry accused Lopez of choking her and filed an order of protection against him.

Distractify shares, “Chris Lopez was arrested on Jan. 21 [2020], after allegedly violating the protective order that was filed against him last year. At the time, he was charged with criminal contempt of a domestic violence protective order and was released the same day after posting his $5,000 bail.

Interestingly enough, a month later in February, Kailyn shared on social media that she was pregnant with her fourth child. ‘We’re confirming the news, baby #4 is coming soon! I’m almost 16 weeks pregnant & it’s been a rough few months this time around,’ she shared on Instagram. ‘I’ve had nausea, morning sickness, and absolutely no energy. This week I’m starting to feel a bit better and I’m really hoping it stays this way!’

Rumors started almost as fast as the pregnancy announcement spread that Chris was the father of her fourth baby, and it turned out to be true, according to Us Weekly.”

Apart again by July

Lowry later said that she didn’t want Lopez to attend the birth of their second son, Creed. However, not only did Lopez attend, but Lowry gave Creed Lopez’ last name in an effort to extend an olive branch. Lowry said she hoped it would encourage Lopez to be more present for their second son than he had been for Lux. However, the bid didn’t seem to pay off as Lopez has continued to be distant and uninvolved.

Lopez isn’t consistent in the lives of his sons

As the new season of Teen Mom 2 approached, CELEB shared a clip of Lowry questioning her future with Lopez over rumors that he had cheated while she was pregnant with Creed. Lowry seemed at the time willing to accept Lopez at his word, but something went terribly wrong because the pair is no longer together. In the same clip, Lowry can be heard bemoaning Lopez’ inconsistent involvement in the lives of their older son.

Things don’t improve as time goes by

Lopez continues to show himself to be inconsistent and inconsiderate. Although Lowry has spoken at length about Lux’s beautiful long hair and the child’s preference to keep it that way, Lopez took it upon himself to make a change. Over the weekend, Lopez chopped Lux’s hair a few inches shorter. We’re not sure if he used scissors or a dull hatchet, but the end result falls far short of the luxurious locks Lux sported before. Lowry was furious, and accused Lopez of being a narcissist.

Jenelle Evans, who has feuded with Lowry in the past, couldn’t stop herself from weighing in on the topic. Evans attempted to offer Lowry advice on how to co-parent peacefully, taking Lopez’ side. Fans immediately ripped into her for hypocrisy, as Evans has had no shortage of drama with co-parenting issues in the past. The pair sniped back and forth on social media, with Evans saying some pretty awful things to Lowry, even suggesting Lowry deserved to be choked.

Now, Lowry reveals the custody arrangement

An Instagram fan of Lowry had responded to the hair-cutting incident with, “Sadly, unless there are court documents saying otherwise that child is both of theirs. Chris has just as much right to make decisions as Kail. It seems unfair when one parent is more involved but that’s just the way she goes (I know, I’ve gone through it).”

Lowry, however, chimed in to confirm that Lopez does not in fact have equal custody, responding, “he does not have custody. he has supervised visits.”

Not a surprise, but it does raise questions

Given Lopez’ violent history, it’s not surprising to learn that he doesn’t share equal custody. However, the fact that he only has supervised visits raises some questions. If someone was supervising the visit, who the heck let him cut Lux’s hair? Isn’t the point of a supervised visit to make sure the questionable parent is making responsible choices and respecting the rights of the custodial parent? We’d be having some words with whoever the visit supervisor is.

Lowry and Lopez will have to work together in the future to co-parent their sons. While they seem totally better off apart, they’ll never be out of each other’s lives due to Creed and Lux. If they can’t find a way to move forward peacefully, this constant back-and-forth drama will become more of the norm.
