A search engine used by millions to book hotel stays is trying something new and different – their own hotel. Kayak is partnering with Life House, a hotel design company, to launch their very first, highly-connected hotel in Miami Beach. With plans to have all possible amenities accessible through their specialized app, Kayak hopes to bring their tech know-how and broad industry knowledge to bear with the design IQ and creativity of Life House.
Kayak Announces Plans to Partner with Life House
Kayak released a press statement full of excitement and promise on their new venture; a modern, sleek, boutique hotel in Miami Beach. The statement reads in part, “the world’s leading travel search engine – announced it will open its first-ever hotel in April 2021. Guests of the 52-room KAYAK Miami Beach will enjoy a locally rooted experience, housed in a landmark 1934 Art Deco building off the Collins Canal, just steps from the beach. KAYAK will use the property as a design lab to test and refine software innovations in the accommodation space.
‘We created KAYAK to compare prices from hundreds of travel sites. We now want our app to help with the hotel guest experience too,’ said Steve Hafner, CEO of KAYAK. ‘KAYAK Miami Beach is our design lab for accommodation innovations – and a great place to stay.’
KAYAK partnered with Life House, an award winning lifestyle brand and management company, to shape and manage the guest experience and bring its hotel vision to life. ‘Collaborating with KAYAK accelerates our mission to make travel more meaningful and accessible for a wide array of discerning travelers,’ said Rami Zeidan, Founder and CEO of Life House. ‘Together with KAYAK we’re able to create a perfect hotel experience for modern travelers who are seeking locally-rooted, intuitive hotel experiences at accessible prices.’”
Tech at Your Fingertips with the KAYAK App
Because Kayak does one thing better than everything else – tech – they’re playing to their strengths for the Kayak hotel. The app will provide 24/7 access to hotel staff, service requests, notifications about events and on-site amenities, and much more. The hotel hopes to promise a kiosk-based, 60-second app check-in experience in the lobby.
In the rooms, guests will have access to a dizzying array of tv channels, including one that will provide guests with content from Green Monkey Yoga, so they can zen out while resting in.
“’Over time, we want the KAYAK app to help our users plan and manage every aspect of their stays,’ said Steve Hafner, CEO of KAYAK. ‘The big hotel chains have been working on this tech for years and we look forward to leveling the playing field for independent hotels.’”
The Hotel Design Offers Tailored Touches That Blend Kayak’s Expertise with Modern Luxury
You aren’t just signing up for a convenient and high-tech stay, however. With the breathtaking tropical vistas of Miami Beach and every local experience you could want right at your fingertips, you may be torn between venturing out or staying in.
When you do stay in, you’ll be wrapped in personally tailored luxury. The press statement promises, “The hotel’s design draws inspiration from the local Streamline Moderne architecture and features bold Deco-esque patterning with aviation themed silhouettes in a nod to KAYAK’s expertise in flights. An eclectic collection of late 1970s-era Andy Sweet photographs depicting life in Miami Beach are juxtaposed with geometric paintings and tile murals throughout public spaces and guest rooms. KAYAK Miami Beach’s interior design elements are rendered in layers of earth tones with warm burnt orange (a subtle salute to the travel brand’s iconic orange logo), dusty greys and jewel blues to deliver a contemporary, yet homey environment. “
The rooftop features spacious terraced suites adjacent to private, guests-only sunbathing stations and a plunge pool overlooking the Collins Canal. A wrap-around rooftop houses the on-property modern Middle Eastern bar and restaurant concept, Layla. Reservations for Layla will be available exclusively on OpenTable (KAYAK’s sister brand) starting today.”
Once you crawl into a bed after a long day of sun and sand or relaxation around the property, you’ll stretch your legs between the soft Revival New York linens after luxuriating in fragrant Le Labo bath amenities and listening to sleek Marshall speakers.
