Kim K and Kanye Focus on Kids as They Live Separate Lives

Reality superstar Kim Kardashian and star rapper Kanye West appear to have reached a turning point in their relationship. Against all odds, the unlikely couple has overcome obstacles and persevered through six years of marriage and the birth of four beautiful children. Earlier this year it looked as though they would be divorcing, and sources close to the couple suggest that they are living separate lives and pursuing separate interests. However, they remain focused on their children and don’t seem ready to talk divorce quite yet.
It’s Been Quite a Year for the Star Couple
The West family’s difficult year began like so many families’: with a diagnosis of COVID. West was sick with COVID in mid-March, one of the first big celebrities to announce a diagnosis. Kardashian talked about how isolating and scary it was caring for him alone at home.
From there, things went from bad to worse. Although West was lucky enough to survive with seemingly no long-term effects, July would bring new challenges for the Kardashian-West household. West announced his intention to run for president of the United States in July, thrusting his family to the forefront of the national conversation. Unfortunately, West’s bid for candidacy coincided with a manic portion of his bipolar illness, about which he has been open in the past.
During a rally to drum up support for his candidacy, West ranted on a variety of topics. From his feelings on Black Lives Matter and Donald Trump, to matters of a more personal nature, West’s instability was on full and public display. But all could have been well until West decided to share how he and Kardashian had considered aborting one of their children.
In an earlier CELEB article, we explored the incident which distressed Kardashian to see shared so publicly; “West stunned both audiences and his wife by speaking at a North Carolina about what Kardashian probably assumed would remain private; the near-abortion of one of their children. West said, without context while discussing abortion, ‘My mom saved my life. My dad wanted to abort me. My mom saved my life. There would’ve been no Kanye West because my dad was too busy … I almost killed my daughter.’
DailyWire reports that West then added, ‘‘Even if my wife wants to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world even when I didn’t want to. She stood up and she protected that child. You know who else protected a child? Forty-three years ago, who do you think protected a child?’ he said, sobbing.’
In the same rally, West also ranted about a bizarre interpretation he has of slave-freeing heroine Harriet Tubman; ‘[She] never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people.’”
Kardashian and West lived apart for a time after that incident, with Kardashian apparently traveling across country to beg West to get help, which he did after going on a tweet rant against his wife and her family. It seemed as though nothing could salvage the relationship.
Kim and Kanye “Lead Separate Lives”
And it’s hard to say whether something did salvage the relationship or not. Although those close to Kardashian and West suggest that they aren’t working on a divorce, it does appear that they’re living separate lives for now.
Vanity Fair reports, “The couple ‘very much live separate lives’ according to a source who spoke with People. ‘Their lives don’t overlap much.’ But despite (or perhaps because of) all that time spent apart pursuing their individual interests, ‘Kim seems happy’ and is ‘very focused on work and causes,’ the source added. ‘She strongly believes she can make a change when it comes to prison reform. This is her passion. Her family is very proud of her.’ Most recently, she lobbied Donald Trump to commute the sentence of Brandon Bernard who was convicted of murder as a teenager in 2000 and executed by the government on Thursday.”
Kimye is Focused On Their Children
Whatever is happening on the marriage front, both Kardashian and West are focused on giving their children a stable and happy life. E! News shares “‘Kim and Kanye are doing their own thing. They spend a lot of time apart,’ the source shares with E! News, adding that they are ‘focused on the things that are important to them.’
‘[Kim] is doing her thing and [Kanye] is doing his. She doesn’t micromanage it or worry about it too much,” adds the insider. ‘She lets him go off and be who he is. It is what it is.’
Although the couple might not physically be together as often, the source notes, ‘They are still a family and they come together for the kids.’
In fact, they will all be celebrating the holidays together. ‘They will be spending Christmas Eve with the family having a low-key get-together,’ the source shares of their plans. ‘It won’t be like years past, but they will do something as a family and all be together.’”
Whatever their marriage evolves into, it’s clear that both Kardashian and West are content with the direction it’s taking.
