Lisa Marie Presley

As the only daughter of the late Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley, Lisa Marie Presley belonged to the eyes of the public from the start. She was born exactly nine months after the wedding of Elvis and Priscilla, on February 1, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. However, she moved to Los Angeles at the age of four [with her mother] following her parents’ 1973 divorce.

As Lisa Marie grew up, the public interest in her life, both personal and professional, never dimmed, much like her father’s. She was recognized as the princess to the man who was known as “the King of rock ‘n’ roll.” Unfortunately, Elvis died at just 42 years old when Lisa Marie was only nine. Although she had fond memories to share of her father such as dancing and singing around the house, her life following his death wasn’t as gentle.

Presley began acting out and experimenting with drugs, forcing her mother to send her to multiple private schools. In 2003 she told the Los Angeles Times that she “was kind of a longer, a melancholy and strange child.” Adding, “I had a real self-destructive mode for a while. I never really fit into school. I didn’t really have any direction.”

Lisa Maire Presley faced her own battles in love, in family, and in her career but she managed to be strong for those around her. The singer wrote in 2022 for PEOPLE, “It’s a real choice to keep going, one that I have to make every single day and one that is constantly challenging to say the least … But I keep going for my girls.”

Unfortunately, on Thursday, January 12, Lisa Maire Presley suffered an apparent cardiac arrest and died at the hospital. She was 54.

An Unexpected Tragedy

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Priscilla shared in a statement to PEOPLE Thursday evening. She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”

Lisa Maire Presley was rushed to the hospital on Thursday morning for what was reported as a cardiac arrest. PEOPLE received confirmation from a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department that paramedics responded to the 5900 block of Normandy drive in Calabasas to treat a woman in her 50s who was not breathing. When paramedics arrived they began CPR and when the patient had “signs of life” they transferred her to a local hospital for “immediate medical care.”

It was just a few days ago that Lisa Marie and Priscilla Presley attended the Golden Globe Awards in support of the Baz Luhrmann film “Elvis”, starring Austin Butler, who received an award for his portrayal of the King.

Lisa Marie Presley Laid to Rest With Her Son

Lisa Marie Presley lost her son to suicide in 2020 when he was just 27 years old. She opened up about her loss in an essay for National Grief Awareness Day writing, “My and my three daughters’ lives as we knew it were completely detonated and destroyed by his death. We live in this every. Single. Day.” Continuing, “Grief is something you will have to carry with you for the rest of your life, in spite of what certain people or our culture wants us to believe. You do not ‘get over it,’ you do not ‘move on,’ period.”

Lisa Marie devoted her endless love and life daughters in honor of her son. “I keep going for my girls,” she wrote. “I keep going because my son made it very clear in his final moments that taking care of his little sisters and looking out for them were on the forefront of his concerns and his mind. He absolutely adored them and they him.”

The singer’s final resting place will be at Graceland, next to her son, whom she loved dearly. She will join her son and the Meditation Garden which is also the resting place of Elvis, his mother Gladys Presley, his father Vernon Presley, and Elvis’ grandmother Minnie Mae Presley.

Rest in Peace Lisa Maire. Our hearts and prayers go out to the entire Presley family at this time.
