In 2023, Chris Rock will perform live in a global streaming event on Netlfix – the first of its kind. The streaming service is moving into live streaming technology and Rock will be the first person to test it out with a comedy special. He teased the special during his Ego Death tour while in London when he promised to talk more about the infamous oscar slap from Will Smith. He said, “People expect me to talk about the bullshit, I’m not going to talk about it right now, I’ll get to it eventually, on Netflix.”
Chris Rock: An Icon of Our Generation
“Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation,” said Robbie Praw, Netflix VP of Stand-up and Comedy Formats. “We’re thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we’re so honored that Chris is carrying this torch.”
Rock previously showcased his stand-up talent with Tamborine in 2018. He also appeared at the Netflix is a Joke festival alongside Dave Chappelle in the spring of 2022. The event took over the city of Los Angeles, featuring more than 330 comedians performing 295 shows across more than 35 venues.
Rock has made great success in the industry winning four Emmys for his work in comedy, two of those for his notable performance in his 1996 special Bring the Pain. He’s also had a memorable acting career (many of us know him as the Zebra in Madagascar) and has managed to pave a path for himself as writer/director of films such as Top Five.
Not much information has been released about his live-streamed stand-up underway but keep your eyes and ears peeled for more to come as we approach 2023.
