One Direction fans are in a total frenzy over the news that Zayn Malik has become a dad! That’s right, the singer announced on Wednesday, September 23, that he and his girlfriend, Gigi Hadid, had welcomed their first child together — a baby girl — and everyone could not be more excited for them!
But that’s not the only thing that has the internet going wild. Yep, after the “Pillowtalk” artist shared the exciting news, his former One Direction bandmate Louis Tomlinson had the sweetest reaction ever to it! As fans know, they’ve definitely had a rocky relationship in the past (not only did the former bandmates have a major social media fight, but they have also shaded each other numerous times in interviews) so seeing them interact online is seriously making us emotional.
Malik And Hadid Announced That They Had Welcomed A Baby Girl
“Our baby girl is here, healthy and beautiful,” the pop star wrote on Twitter, alongside a touching photo of him holding the newborn’s hand. “To try put into words how I am feeling right now would be an impossible task. The love I feel for this tiny human is beyond my understanding. Grateful to know her, proud to call her mine and thankful for the life we will have together.”
Hadid also took to Instagram to gush over the news. She added, “Our girl joined us earth-side this weekend and she’s already changed our world. So in love.”
As fans know, the couple first announced that they were expecting their first baby together back in April.
“Obviously, we wish we could’ve announced it on our own terms, but we’re very excited and happy and grateful for everyone’s well wishes and support,” the model told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon at the time.
So Many Celebrities Reacted To The Exciting News
Naturally, so many of the couple’s celebrity friends took to the comment section to gush over the news that they had officially become parents!
Hailey Baldwin wrote, “Welcome baby girl! So happy for you guys.”
“Congratulations Gigi and Zayn!” Emily Ratajowski added.
Kourtney Kardashian even left some hearts on the post! But it was Tomlinson’s response that really caught fans’ eyes. He didn’t comment anything, but he liked the photo Malik had posted of his daughter, and everyone quickly went into a frenzy.
Malik And Tomlinson Were Best Friends During One Direction
For those who don’t know, the guys first met after they auditioned as solo artists on The X Factor in 2010. Simon Cowell put them into a band (alongside Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Niall Horan), and right away, Tomlinson and Malik became the best of friends. Throughout their time in the group together, they were constantly goofing off together in videos, having the cutest little moments on stage and get this — they even got matching tattoos of the words “Bus one,” which is where they spent most of their time on tour! Yeah, everyone was living for their relationship.
But When Malik Left The Band, Things Turned Sour
In March 2015, the 27-year-old shocked the entire world when he announced that he was leaving the band.
“My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band,” he wrote on Facebook. “I’d like to apologize to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.”
After that, things started to turn sour between the former bandmates. Malik dissed them all during interviews, and he even claimed that he never wanted to be in the band in the first place. And when Tomlinson caught wind of his comments, he threw some shade towards Malik on Twitter.
“Remember when you were 12 and you used to think those Mac filters for your pictures were cool haha? Some people still do HA!” the “Walls” crooner wrote, referring to photos Malik had posted. He quickly clapped back, “@Louis_Tomlinson remember when you had a life and stopped making b***hy comments about mine?”
They Tried To Fix Things After Tomlinson’s Mom Passed Away
In December 2016, Tomlinson’s mother, Johannah Deakin, sadly passed away after a battle with leukemia. And the 28-year-old later revealed that one of his mom’s dying wishes was that he made up with Malik.
“My mum said, ‘You’ve got to get back in contact with Zayn. Life’s too short,’” he told The Sun. “A mother’s intuition is just f**king crazy. It always felt supernatural to me. My mum always knew what I was feeling and what I wanted. I can’t stand to hold a grudge with anyone. It doesn’t sit with me right. If there is any animosity, just clear the air. I met up with him and it was nice.”
In January 2017, Tomlinson confirmed in another interview that everything was all good between them!
“Me and Zayn have spoken recently, gotten to a point now where you can just really be happy for each other. Things have happened in the past, of course. It’s great. His first song was an absolute smash and that’s a great song. It’s nice,” he said.
But after the death of his mom, Tomlinson took to The X Factor stage to perform an emotional tribute to her, and all of the guys showed up to support him. Except Malik, that is. And that was the last straw for Tomlinson.
“I had a couple of calls with him after I lost my mum,” the singer later admitted to Dan Wootton on his podcast. “All the boys had agreed to come to that performance and he didn’t show so that really bugged me. It was just seeing everyone there – Harry, Niall and Liam – that was what I needed that night, that support. So on the other end of the spectrum, it kind of really showed. So, eh, I hope he’s alright.”
As of October 2019, Tomlinson was definitely not ready to forgive Malik.
“I just don’t think I am mature enough, even in my own head, to give that a real answer,” he explained, when asked if he could ever make up with his former bandmate. “At the moment, I am still pretty mad about the whole thing. I don’t think [Malik] handled it very well. But never say never. Who knows? He chatted a lot of s**t in the early days. I thought One Direction [was] pretty good.”
So Where Do They Stand Now?
In February 2020, The Sunasked the artist if he thought Malik’s comments about his time in the band were “disrespectful,” and he told them, “Yeah, I do. But I can understand it. We have a lot of situations where we’re sat in interviews and if you’re in a certain mood you might run your mouth. The older you get the more you can tell if these things actually carry any malice or if they’re just a prod in the back. That’s life, innit? Sometimes people chat s**t and that’s the reality.”
As for whether or not he had spoken to Malik, he added, “No, but I’ve not actively tried. We’ve all got a lot on our plates and there might be a day where I wake up and think, ‘OK, I want to right that wrong,’ but not yet.”
Then, in August 2020, when the band celebrated their 10-year anniversary, Tomlinson refollowed Malik on social media. And now, the fact that he hit the like button on the musician’s baby announcement is a pretty big deal.
Tomlinson Has A Child Of His Own
As fans know, the Icarus Falls crooner isn’t the only member of the band who has welcomed a child! Yep, Tomlinson is actually a father of his own. He and his ex-girlfriend,Briana Jungwirth, welcomed a son together, named Freddie Reign Tomlinson, on January 21, 2016.
Payne is also a father. His ex-girlfriend, Cheryl Cole, gave birth to a baby boy named Bear Payne on March 22, 2017. And although Payne has not spoken out about Malik and Hadid giving birth, after the news that they were expecting first hit the web, he addressed it in a YouTube video.
“I wanted to make sure I said something on my own before I start getting asked about it relentlessly by everybody,” the “Strip That Down” singer said. “I just wanted to say congratulations to Zayn and Gigi, obviously, you know, they’re having a baby at the moment.”
It looks like despite all the past drama, things are all good between them all now!
