In today’s episode of “things you didn’t expect to tug at your heartstrings,” we have: Ludacris receiving his Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
Ludacris, real name Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, is a quintessential girl dad and is known for putting his family first, and this week’s celebration was no exception.
The rapper beamed proudly alongside his family, but the best part of the day was yet to come – and he had no idea what was in store.
On Thursday, Bridges’ “Fast X” castmates joined him for the awarding of the star, including Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson, along with friends Queen Latifah and LL Cool J.
Luda knew that his daughters Chance, Cadence and Kai would be there along with his wife, Eudoxie Bridges. But he did not know that his daughter Karma would be there.
When it was Diesel’s turn to give a speech, he praised his Fast costar for a few minutes, before dropping the bomb that the surprise guest was none other than Karma.
EW reports, “Ludacris was unaware that his eldest daughter Karma would be in attendance. While he thought she was at a school event across the country, she was actually lingering backstage, waiting to surprise her father with a heartfelt speech. She started by dedicating her words directly to him, saying: ‘To my rock, my hero, my dad, words can’t describe how much being here for you today means to me.’
She explained that despite convincing him otherwise, she always planned to attend the ceremony. ‘After receiving your text on Thursday asking if I could make it to LA for your Hollywood star, it took everything in me to come up with an excuse of why I couldn’t make it here today,’ Karma told her father. ‘The truth is, I wouldn’t miss it for the world.’
She ended her speech by saying, ‘Congratulations to a legend of an artist and a legend of a father.'”
When it was his turn to take the podium, Ludacris thanked is wife, his family, his manager and agents.
He also took some time to shout out “heroes in heaven.” Those include director John Singleton, who died in 2019, and his Fast and Furious” co-star Paul Walker, who died in 2013.
Luda said, “It’s been two decades and counting of building a brand and a legacy. And I love my current village right now, because it is so strong.”
The rapper also thanked LL Cool J for kicking off his rap career; “That’s why I am here today. He is the man that inspired me to want to rap.”
It was a heartwarming celebration of Ludacris’s impressive career, but also what happens when you have the right village around you on your ride to the top. Through all of the ups and downs, Bridges has managed to keep his heart in his family and his eyes on the prize of a life well lived. His Hollywood star is a testament both to his career achievements and the love he has for everything he does – and the people who surround him.
We’re not crying, you are.
