Last week, the young popstar, Madison Beer released her new single, "Dangerous," accompanied by the official music video.
At just 13, Beer went viral for her cover of Etta James' song "At Last," when Justin Bieber tweeted the video of her, "wow. 13 years old! she can sing. great job. #futurestar." Soon after, she signed with Def Jam Records and was managed by Scooter Braun. However, just went her career was about to take off at 16 years old, the label dropped her.
She previously opened up to Rolling Stone explaining that because of her push back against their vision of her, they dropped her before the release of her first album which also scrapped all other projects laid out for her including TV show and movies. She revealed to the magazine, "I was always told, 'Well, one day when you're older, you'll be able to make that stuff. But then I realized that I don't need to be older to do it."
However, it was a blessing in disguise for Beer. In an interview with Build she shared, "It took me getting my dreams and then having them, honestly, all ripped away from me to put me where I am now. I don't think I would be as artistic. I literally had everything taken away from me." The singer revealed that everyone gave up on her and left her high and dry besides her mom, who actually managed Beer on her own for two years before she signed with Epic Records in 2019.
The Long Island native has proven herself over years to be a music powerhouse over the years generating unparalleled success as an independent artist. Her debut album, Life Support, was released in early 2021 and received positive attention from V Magazine, Nylon, and NME. Billboard also stated that the album single "Boyshit," "makes a late case for one of the best pop chorus openings of 2020.”
And now, she has released "Dangerous" following her most recent single "Reckless," which was the first track to come from her upcoming project. Being her personal best so far, "Reckless" received over 234 million streams on Spotify.
A Step Towards More Vulnerable Work
“Dangerous is the start of a more honest, vulnerable and mature chapter,” says Madison. “It’s about accepting that some situations didn’t pan out the way you imagined. And it’s about questioning your own responsibility in a relationship."
The rising star co-produced and co-wrote "Dangerous" alongside Tobias Jesso Jr and James Francies, as well as longtime collaborators Tim Sommers, Jeremy “Kinetics” Dussolliet, and Leroy Clampitt.
Her new single beautifully displays her range of vocals through lush harmonies, complete with a string arrangement.
Beer is centerstage among an orchestra ensemble in her dreamy video production which she also co-directed. She wears an elegant black corseted dress which flares out with tool over the platform she stands on. She kept her hair and make-up simple, giving the attention to her profound voice and passionate lyrics.
This past weekend, the Fenty Beauty ambassador performed "Dangerous" live for the first time at the Reading and Leeds festivals.
"I’m really excited for fans to hear this new side and hope they love it as much as I do!” said Beer.
