It’s safe to say that Hannah Montanawas a huge part of a lot of our childhoods. The Disney Channel show aired from March 2006 to January 2011, and it quickly became one of the most beloved shows of all time. That’s why ever since it came to an end, fans have been hoping and praying that the network will one day bring it back. Well guys, you might want to brace yourselves because according to the show’s star Miley Cyrus, we may actually be getting a reboot!
“Y’know when something — like, a good vintage t-shirt — like, enough time has to go by until it’s good again. It goes through a period where it’s bad because it’s old, but then it’s so old that it’s good again?” the actress said during a recent interview with Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp. “Hannah is like a fine wine. We’ve got to wait until she’s ready.”
OMG. How exciting is that?! And it turns out, this isn’t the first time the “Wrecking Ball” songstress has confirmed that she would be down to reprise the role one day. Here’s everything else she (and the rest of the cast) has said about the possibility of bringing the show back…
Billie Ray Cyrus Previously Confirmed That Disney Has A Prequel In The Works
Back in February 2020, the singer’s dad revealed that Disney was working on a Hannah Montana prequel series!
“They’re talking about doing a prequel, which to me, I would do that in a heartbeat. Because that means I get to get my mullet back,” he said. “I think there’s a whole story that led up to Miley becoming Hannah Montana.”
This is the best news ever! At the time, however, E! News reported that nothing was in development just yet.
Miley Cyrus Still Wears Her ‘Hannah Montana’ Wig
While speaking to Carolina With Greg T In The Morning in August 2020, the singer admitted that she still wears her Hannah Montana wig all the time.
“You know what honestly, I try to put that wig on all the time. She’s just in storage collecting dust and I’m ready to whip her out,” she dished. “The opportunity will present itself. I definitely would like to resurrect her at some point. She needs a big makeover because she’s kinda stuck in 2008, so we’ll need to go shopping with Miss Montana.”
The 27-year-old continued, “And also yeah I’d love to do a series again. I think it would be hard for me to get locked into a sound stage for a couple years, but that’s sometime in the future and hopefully I’m directing it.”
Miley Cyrus Admitted In The Past that She Wanted No Part Of It
Although she’s definitely a fan of it now, back in 2018, the brunette beauty told People Magazine that she did not want to return to play Hannah Montana again.
“[I] probably [wouldn’t do a Hannah Montana reboot]. It’s a lot of time to be spent with my dad. You know, my dad was my dad on the show. I have enough dad time,” she explained at the time. “That was really hard every day from, like, [ages] 11 to 18. I didn’t get a school escape like most people. I went to work with my dad. And then I started driving my dad toward the end when I could start driving.”
Plus, the former Disney star previously said that she hated the show.
“From 18 to probably two years ago, I hated it,” Cyrus explained during a February 2019 interview. “I didn’t really get to be a kid very much, because I worked so much, but I wanted that.”
The musician also admitted that it had a negative impact on her mental health.
“From the time I was 11, it was, ‘You’re a pop star! That means you have to be blonde, and you have to have long hair, and you have to put on some glittery tight thing. Meanwhile, I’m this fragile little girl playing a 16-year-old in a wig and a ton of makeup. It was like Toddlers & Tiaras,” she told Marie Claire in 2015. “I was told for so long what a girl is supposed to be from being on [Hannah Montana]. I was made to look like someone that I wasn’t, which probably caused some body dysmorphia because I had been made pretty every day for so long, and then when I wasn’t on that show, it was like, ‘Who the f**k am I?’”
The singer explained that looking back, she felt it was too much to put on someone her age.
“I think what was hard for me was balancing everything,” Cyrus also explained to W Magazine in 2017. “I think it got harder when I started touring as both — I toured as Hannah Montana and as myself. I think that’s probably what’s a little bit wrong with me now! I mark that up to doing some extreme damage in my psyche as an adult person. I liked being in the Disney universe because I didn’t know anything else. I knew I was getting to live what I wanted to do. I think now that I’m older now, I realize that’s a lot to put on a kid.”
Miley Cyrus Says She Wasn’t Paid Much For Starring In The Show
“I mean, at one point — they’ll probably kill me for saying it — I was probably the least-paid person on my cast because I didn’t know any better,” Cyrus revealed to Elle Magazine. “I was just like, ‘I can be on Disney! Yeah, I want to do it! My name was Miley on the show, but I didn’t own my name. My mom started understanding how many people take advantage of a child, so she hired smart people to protect me in that way.”
Now, Miley Cyrus Is Thankful For Her Time In The Show
Despite all the negative things she has said about it in the past, now, Cyrus has nothing but love for the blonde-haired pop star she used to portray.
“Since the last record, my last record was called ‘Younger Now’ and it says, even though it’s not who I am, I’m not afraid of who I used to be. That was my epiphany,” she told RuPaul on his podcast earlier this year.
The Cast Of ‘Hannah Montana’ Is Still Close
As fans know, the show also starred Emily Osment, Mitchell Musso, Moisés Arias and more. And get this — Cyrus and Osment are still close now, despite almost a whole decade passing since the show ended! They recently reunited for an Instagram Live, and seeing them together again made us all pretty emotional, TBH.
“You are gonna be shooketh,” the pop star told her viewers while introducing her former on-screen BFF during the livestream. “This is the reunion of the decade! My BFF that shared the screen with me for the last 15 years. On and off screen she’s a bad**s best friend, whether for Hannah or Miley, she’s always there for her.”
How sweet?! They also reminisced about their time in the show together, and it was everything. Ugh, we really hope they bring this series back ASAP!
