In a perfectly perfect world, we fall in love with someone, they fall in love back, marriage comes next, and then comes a home and children. Although we all know by now that perfect is unachievable and love cannot be planned. And, if anyone can attest to that, it's Teen Mom star Leah Messer. Messer is twice divorced with three kids- twins with one ex and another daughter with another ex. Most recently, she is in love with someone new who has swept her off her feet and into a new home.
Jaylan Mobley is his name and he has been a dream for Messer. She has even labeled their relationship as too good to be true, sometimes. And, during the show's season finale, Mobley brought up his desire for marriage and kids which didn't become the conversation that fans were expecting.
But First, Let’s Catch You Up
In a past interview with Entertainment Tonight, Messer admitted to her new beau checking every box for her type of man. "When Jaylan started checking all the boxes and characteristics that I had been looking for in a partner, I won't even lie, I was taken back. He's so compassionate, caring, patient, kind, thoughtful, has a great sense of humor, is adventurous, and LOVES kids. I swore he wasn't real," said Messer.
During Teen Mom Family Reunion Messer opened up to her co-star Ashley Jones. She shared, "Jaylan is really great guy. And he's cool, he's so kind. He's very career-driven. He has his long-term goals, his short-term goals. He's very intelligent. Thoughtful. Compassionate."
Back in September, Messer revealed to Entertainment Tonight that her new man had met her kids. She shared, "Jaylan and the girls just recently met, and they connected so well that it initially scared me, but I want me, girls, to see who is making their mama smile. I'm happy they got to meet him and love him." An insider also told E!, "Leah is excited about becoming exclusive with Jaylan, and they both are enjoying their time with each other. While she has been nervous in the past about introducing someone new to the girls. the meeting went really well."
The couple's biggest obstacle was their distance. They lived states apart which meant hours of driving and no option to pick themselves off the couch for last minute a date night. But, Mobley proved himself to be Messer's prince charming once again, he solved their issue.
When In Doubt, Buy A House. Right?
Messer and Mobley (aw, M&M) previously announced on Instagram that they purchased a new home in Charleston, West Virginia.
Jaylan shared the news on Instagram, captioning a photo of them in front of their new home. He wrote, "Proud to be a First Time Home Owner! I am so thankful and blessed and still speechless to own this home" He continued, "Suprise! @leahmesser I'm proud of you for selling your first home and so I wanted to surprise you with a new home, our home. We deserve this! You deserve this! I can't wait to build, grow, and create generational wealth, legacy, and opportunities for us and our families. This is to the next chapter and really leveling up. For most people, these are special moments you remember the most — and as a black young man from Charlotte, this is a dream come true.”
Mobley's post shows the house to be a charming brick house – with a lot of square footage. A brief peek inside the stately front door shows an elegant staircase, dark hardwood floors, and all the space Messer and her family need to spread out and feel right at home. The pair takes fans on a brief tour of the yard as well, pointing out the sprawling acreage lovingly embraced by a white wooden fence. It's not quite a white picket fence, but it's clear from the beauty of the home and the smile on Messer's face that she's living the American Dream.
However, the "American Dream" might not be everything Mobley gets. When he brought up marriage during the season finale episode of Teen Mom Messer's reaction wasn't everything he hoped for.
Two Marriages Too Many?
Together on a drive in the car, Messer and Mobley got into the topic of marriage and kids. Mobley excited shared, "Hell yeah I wanna get married. I wanna get married, I wanna have kids, I wanna do the things that most people get to experience." However, Messer's response didn't come with as much excitement.
The twice divorced mother of three replied, "Never getting remarried." She continued on with questions, "Why do you need marriage documents or legalized documents, can't you just be in love, be happy, have a family, and not have to have these sealed documents?"
Mobley, looking visibly upset, replied, "Yeah." And, Leah added in the final word saying, "Sometimes traditions are annoying."
Fans of the show ran to the comment section to sympathize with Mobley who has yet to experience marriage or kids of his own. One wrote, "Jay, you might wanna take a step back. She doesn't want what you want, so don't settle." Another said, "His face made me sad for him. I've been in that very moment so I know exactly how he's feeling." While a third chimed in, "Poor guy never got to experience it [marriage], but she will give in when time goes by. Love their maturity."
What do you think? Will Leah cave in and legal bound herself to another man? Or, will she stick to her guns and risk losing her prince charming?
