“We are excited to be back, we are excited to kick off and finish the DNA World Tour that we started back in 2019,”says Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson. He and fellow members Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Howie Dorough chatted with us about their long awaited return to the stage.
It was only fitting that the Backstreet Boys restart their tour in their home away from home, Las Vegas. The band did have multiple residencies in Vegas through the years. “I requested it because I live here,” jokes Nick. Kevin steps in to set the record straight, “We got a call. Apparently there was a huge artist that was supposed to be performing in this venue and they needed some help.”
The “huge artist” that he is referring to is of course Adele. The iconic singer postponed her Las Vegas residency at the last minute earlier this year leaving her scheduled dates at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace open.
“We love Adele and we were honored to help out,” says Kevin. Fans of the Backstreet Boys were certainly not complaining. And neither were any of the guys who were more than eager to return to the fans. While gearing up for the relaunch of the DNA World Tour they spent just over two weeks in Vegas gearing up for the show. Vegas served as host for the first four shows of the DNA Tour. In between, the guys checked out other shows.

“On our downtime we saw Silk Sonic. Amazing! You have to see ‘em. We saw Carrie Underwood,” says Kevin. Brian and Nick both add in, “Amazing”. “We saw MJ’s ‘One,’” says AJ. “We also saw Keith Urban,” says Kevin. “We got to see a lot of great live entertainment!”
“We started seeing these shows as we were here,” says Nick. “It got us inspired. We were really motivated to get back up on stage. We are excited, the fans are excited. People are just hungry for live performances again.” Howie continues, “We feel like it’s the best time to get back out into the road again and share a little nostalgia and bring some smiles to some faces.”
Smiles and excitement aside, the Backstreet Boys have been making music, matching outfits and serenading millions of fans for thirty years. “It’s not easy to go from decade to decade. That’s 10 years of people growing up. You know, the fans grow up with you, they grow away from you. So, we have had to find a way to keep that relationship going with our fans so that they know that we love them. We are always thinking about them,” says Nick.
“You just have to change as the times change,” AJ adds. “Everything is instant gratification so we could have stayed the other way, but you have to adapt. We do this because we want to do it.”
“We have accomplished a lot of things that a lot of artists can’t fathom. I think a lot of people in our early years probably had written us off,” says Howie. “We do this because we enjoy it not only for the fans, but also for ourselves.”
That enjoyment over three decades did indeed include some impressive accomplishments. The band has countless #1s, record-setting tours, numerous awards and worldwide sales in excess of 130 million. Numbers like that are the reason BSB has been recognized as the best-selling boy band in history.
“When you go out there and you're performing for someone, you are giving them two hours of escapism from the craziness in the world right now,” says Brian. “That's a big job but it’s a great responsibility to have. We are looking forward to getting Backstreet Boys back out in the world and letting people have joy in their lives.”
The Backstreet Boys are off and running on supplying that joy to their fans. Their DNA World Tour is hitting major US cities before hitting the European leg of the tour kicking off in Portugal in the fall.
In the meantime, the band also released the first episode of their new docu series Making Of The DNA Tour. The show, on the bands YouTube channel will be giving fans an inside look of the preparation for their highly-anticipated world tour.
Yep…Backstreet’s Back alright!
