Magician David Blaine is used to making things disappear and then reappear. This last few days we at home have seen the man himself appear multiple times on television or on our social media feeds. The reason for his sudden saturation of late night shows? Well, he's making rounds to promote his upcoming Resorts World Las Vegas residency.
"David Blaine Live" is debuting next week, September 30, exclusively at Resorts World Theatre. The upcoming residency is significant for a couple of reasons. First, it is the first of its kind at Resorts World. And it also happens to be a first for Blaine.
The magician, extreme illusionist and stunt artist has reportedly been offered a residency in Vegas before. Blaine has not entertained those offers for various reasons. Chief among them is the schedule and the number of performances packed into that schedule. He tells People, "For years, Vegas has been making offers, and great offers. The problem with my show is the show that I dream of doing physically can't be done night after night. It's too dangerous."
No problem says Resorts World. Blaine and RW have agreed to a schedule that has Blaine performing for one weekend a month through 2022. That, along with the cushy new digs at the property, make it a perfect place to perform. “The room is so intimate,” said Blaine. “Resorts World Theatre has sparked my imagination and I am so excited to create something unique in magic.”
“Seeing the greatest magician in the world in the newest, state-of-the-art theatre in Las Vegas will be a show unlike anything this city has ever seen before,” says Bobby Reynolds, Senior Vice President of AEG Presents, Las Vegas. “Combining forces will make for a truly spectacular production, and we can’t wait for live audiences to be blown away.”
Late Night Stops
Fans of Blaine will be witness to awe-inspiring magic tricks and death-defying stunts. Some of which have been on display on both The Late Late Show with James Corden and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
For his visit on James Corden, Blaine took a $100 bill from Corden’s wallet, had the late night host tear off a piece and put that piece aside. Blaine then burned the rest of the bill. Then the magician took the ashes, added water to a glass and had Corden drink it all down. When that was completed, Blaine summoned a raven to bring a bill back to the glass. Corden took out the bill and revealed the tear, he then matched his piece of the torn bill to the one brought in by the raven only to have it line up perfectly. Both Corden and the audience were stunned.
For his appearance on The Tonight Show, Blaine swallowed a glass full of nails, had a conversation and then coughed them right back up a few moments later.
Blaine has been performing for audiences all over the world since 2014, though his magic has been mystifying audiences for over two decades. In that time he has had nine primetime specials in which Blaine has been buried alive in New York City for a week, encased inside a six-ton block of ice for three days, survived standing atop a 100ft tall pillar in Bryant Park for 36 hours without a safety net and endured 44 days inside a transparent box in London on nothing but water. Not exactly amateur stuff here people.
Blaine says he is looking forward to putting all of his crazy ideas for performing inside a single room that audiences can enjoy.
Performances for “David Blaine Live” are scheduled for September 30, October 1, October 28, October 29, December 16 and December 17. Tickets start at $59 and are on sale now at https://www.axs.com/davidblaineinvegas.
