As the midterms inch closer, Republicans are nervously holding their breath to see if former President Donald Trump announces his nomination before or after.

Announcing as soon as possible is certainly best for Trump, but Republican strategists are trying to wave him off in the hopes that he doesn't announce early and drive anti-Trump Democrats and Independents to the polls in record numbers.

As things stand - without an official Trump announcement - Republicans are poised to retake both the House and Senate, and they're salivating over the possibility of what can be done to counter the agenda of current President Joe Biden and the Congressional Democrats.

Because of the state of the economy and financial uncertainty for so many Americans, Donald Trump already has a good shot at retaking the presidency in 2024 if the match-up turns out to be between himself and the incumbent.

And in a weird twist of fate, Twitter may be one of the biggest boons in his quest for re-election.

The Less Said, the Better

What an odd thing to say - after all, Trump has been banned from Twitter since early 2021. So how could it work to his advantage?

Because in Trump land, often the less he says the better.

Right now, Biden is making headlines left and right for his failures - a lukewarm foreign policy tour and unimpressive attempts to bat away the rising effects of inflation.

But Trump's headlines are more precise and pointed - because he's no longer on Twitter getting himself into trouble every other day.

Trump keeps his communications almost solely now to his own social media platform, Truth Social. As a result, only his biggest fans are following his every move, his emotional ups and downs, as they used to appear on Twitter for the world to watch in real-time.

Being banned from Twitter may have been the best thing that could happen to him - because now, memories are fading about the chaos from the Tweeter-in-Chief as he took to social media with his every thought during the Presidency.

As that feeling fades from the public consciousness, it's being replaced by frustration - frustration with Biden and the Democrats for seemingly sitting on their hands while inflation soars.

But not sticking his foot in his mouth isn't enough to regain the Presidency.

And for Trump to get back to that theoretical 2024 match-up where he can bring his economic record to bear against Biden's less favorable one, he has to clinch the nomination for the Republican party.

Right now, it's a likely done deal - but as the January 6 panel continues to hammer out their proof of his culpability for the January 6 riots and other investigations such as the one into election interference in Georgia heat up, Trump is running out of time to look good.

Mega-donors have reportedly been withdrawing from the Trump train and eyeing a new darling - Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Trump is in a race against the clock to turn headlines in his favor and regain the political immunity that being the president provides. If he should face Biden in 2024, there's a decent chance he would retake the position he desperately needs.

But that requires a few things to fall into place that may not - so while Biden's chances are headed in the wrong direction, so are Trump's.

The Democrats may not even run Biden in 2024, and that would completely upend Trump's chances. However, the Republicans may not even run Trump - so it's anyone's race at this point. There are 2 years to go before voters can even head to the ballots, but already the political dominoes are either lining up or getting ready to fall, depending on your perspective.
