Chicago has always been a hub of art and music culture. But in recent decades, the festival scene in Chicago has taken on a life of its own.
With the announcement of the dates and lineup for Chicago's Heatwave Music Festival, the art and music scenes are coming together.
Here are the details about Heatwave 2022 and what you need to know about the intersection of pop art and electronic dance music performance.
For two days this summer, Heatwave Music Festival will transform Chicago into a multi-sensory destination that brings together some of the best elements of the world of arts and entertainment.
Auris Presents, an industry-leading company propelling Chicago's live music event scene into the future, is bringing Heatwave to Chicagoans for its debut weekend.
The Heatwave team shares in a statement, "Since the world shaping works of Warhol’s Campbell Soup Cans and Lichtenstein’s Crying Girl, pop-art has always been about harnessing the power of mass-culture to turn the images of the moment on their head. Heatwave aims to tip its hat to this moment in time by creating a music-meets-art landscape of installations and environments to explore.
The debut event will feature some of dance music’s most celebrated stars like Group Therapy and Anjuna powerhouse Above & Beyond, Swedish hitmakers Galantis, hip-hop influenced producer RL Grime, global superstar TIËSTO, and Canadian bass music kings Zeds Dead."
House sounds will take over the event featuring Oliver Heldens, Audien, Goldfish, Frank Walker, MADDS and more.
The EDM main stage will include performances by J.Worra, Dr. Fresch, Shiba San and Westend.
Food served will include a variety of options, including both vegan and vegetarian-friendly options. The festival is running July 16-17. For tickets or more information, visit the website.
Pop Art Meets Music
Festival organizers have divided the festival into three artistic experientials. They're environments that seamlessly blend pop art and music into an extraordinary setup of installations to explore and learn from.
The experiences include:
- "The Inevitable: Inspired one of pop-art’s most iconic artists that trail blazed the intersection of art and music, critics stated that his shows looked 'more like a discotheque than an art gallery.'
- The Reverie: 'The melody haunts my reverie' is plastered on one of pop-arts most iconic paintings. HEATWAVE takes the comic-book stylings and brings it to life.
- The Radiance: The eminal patterns, artist’s iconographic and hieroglyphic style inspired by this artist gives home to a pattern-lined playground full of art and music to experience."
Whether you're an art lover, music lover, or both - Heatwave is the perfect place to blend your passions.
Although 2022 marks the festival's debut year, it's likely to return and grow over the years.
So get ready for a festival that delights the visual and auditory senses in equal parts, and head down to Heatwave this July.
