Turning 21 is the milestone birthday that every American looks forward to, not just because you can legally buy your own alcohol but you also no longer have to dress to the nines every time you want to talk into a bar (I'll take one comfortable fit, a make-up free face and sensible shoes, please). Drinking aside, birthday celebrations are the best reason to bring everyone that you love most together in one space.
This past weekend, Kaia Gerber, celebrated the big 2-1 of Offsunset in Los Angeles and celebrity photographer Jake Cloobeck captured the moments.
"What's 9 plus 10?"
The birthday celebration began in the Nevada desert at Burning Man. The festival celebrates art, community, and self-expression - all very fitting for a milestone birthday. The model was accompanied by her mom, Cindy Crawford, and close friend, Karlie Kloss. Gerber labeled the festival "a very special place" with a photo of her and her mom, on her Instagram story.
Crawford shared a heartfelt post on her Instagram grid which included two photos with her daughter. She wrote, "@kaiagerber, how are you 21 already?! I am so proud of the woman you have become and how you are in the world. Your curiosity, kindness and sense of adventure continue to inspire me. I’m so happy to be on this life journey with you! Continue to thrive this year and always — with so much love ❤️ Mom"
Kloss also expressed love for Gerber with a post that wrote, "happy 21st birthday baby K! 💓 @kaiagerber, i am deeply grateful to have you in my life. so proud of the kind + brilliant woman you are. you’ve accomplished so much and life is only just beginning! cheers to you on this milestone, cannot wait to see all that is in store for you. love you baby sis 🪐✨"
Behind Cloobeck's Lens
Once returning home to LA, the celebrations continued. Gerber threw a little soirée at Offsunset where she was joined by famous friends including Billie Eilish, Paris Jackson, Camila Morrone, Madison Beer, her brother Presley Gerber, and others.
A source shared that the birthday girl "had a blast." The night included singing and dancing to Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and even a surprise performance for Gerber from Kaytranada with Roddy Ricch.
The only person missing from the fabulous get together was Gerber's boyfriend, Austin Butler. At the last minute the Elvis star was unable to make it but, he shared a tweet in honor of the celebration.
The source noted, "Kaia didn’t seem bothered by it at all and was having an amazing time."
Cloobeck is heavily inspired by vintage Hollywood, blending the classic feel of a black and white photo with the timeless and captivating energy that modern-day Hollywood represents. His sense of individuality sets him apart from the crowd, always staying true to his style of work and capturing moments so organically, it almost appears effortless.
Wishing the happiest of birthdays to Kaia Gerber. So much has already been accomplished. What's next following this milestone birthday?
