It's been rumbled about for months, but now it's official: the new Teen Mom series will be a combination of those that came before it.

Aptly likely named Teen Mom: Legacy (although that detail isn't 100% rock solid yet), it combines Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 cast members - but only the most "Film-worthy" ones.

When the cast for the upcoming merger was announced, fans were shocked to find out that two of their favorites got the axe - although maybe at least one was a little obvious from a mile away.

Sorry, Not Film-Worthy Enough!

The Ashley's Reality Roundup has all the details everyone's itching for about the new show. The outlet tapped "Teen Mom: Legacy" as the new name, and has included a cast list.

They have shared that the moms expected to star in the new show include Catelynn Lowell, Maci Bookout, Cheyenne Floyd, Amber Portwood, Leah Messer, Jade Cline, Ashley Jones and Briana DeJesus.

Notably absent are fan favorites Kailyn Lowry and Mackenzie McKee. Fans have been up in arms since it was shared that they would be left out of the new show, but Legacy is focused on the most buzzworthy moments.

The Ashley's Reality Roundup writes, "'Eight girls are filming for the show; whether or not all of the girls’ segments make it into the episodes will depend on how exciting their footage is,' another production source tells The Ashley. “Everyone agrees that the original shows have become stale and forced, with the girls desperately trying to come up with storylines. With this format, only the girls with actual events happening in their lives that are film-worthy will make the final cut.

'The producers hope this will keep everything exciting for the fans, and also for the girls who are filming,' the source added."

McKee may not be returning for one simple and heartbreaking reason - the death of her mom.

Ever since McKee's mom died in 2019, things have been rough for the Teen Mom star.

In May, she let fans know that the experience of grieving, being a mom - and trying to keep up with the drama of the show was getting to her.

McKee tweeted, "Recovering from a death, marriage problems, and what mtv and the OGS did to me back to back has been a rough go honestly 🤣." She later added that she wished the show was still about sharing teen mom struggles - but clearly feels it no longer does.

With all that she has going on, and the pressure the show is putting on her, it's easy to see why she wouldn't want to return.

And in the case of Kailyn Lowry, her own drama may be driving her from the show.

Lowry has been on the outs with several cast members after her very public and messy feud with fellow star Briana DeJesus, and has even taken potshots at the producers.

Lowry at one point seemed to signal that it was DeJesus or her - the show couldn't get both, and then hinted that she was fine without the show.

It looks like she'll have a chance to prove that now.
