Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears are both speaking out on the allegations of molestation that has them under the microscope of a lawsuit.
This past Tuesday, a 22-year-old girl who was referred to as Jane Doe sued Haddish (42) along with comedian Aries Spears (47) because of molestation. The lawsuit was filed in California’s superior Court for Los Angeles County. The lawsuit also included Doe’s younger brother, John. Jane claimed that Haddish had molested her and her brother and left them “traumatized for life.”
According to the plaintiff, Haddish had been a longtime family friend for years and had taken Jane to a very sexually suggestive taping of a sketch when Jane was just 14. Haddish says she had no intention of harming Jane, as she claimed she was trying to help her get on television and start up her career. Apparently during the taping, Haddish tried to teach Jane how to be a part of such sexual acts after watching a man and a woman in an explicit video.
Now, Haddish and Spears are both speaking out about the allegations.
Tiffany Haddish Speaks Out
In a statement that the world was waiting to see on Monday morning, Haddish wrote, "I know people have a bunch of questions. I get it. I'm right there with you. Unfortunately, because there is an ongoing legal case, there's very little that I can say right now.” She added, "But clearly, while this sketch was intended to be comedic, it wasn't funny at all – and I deeply regret having agreed to act in it. I really look forward to being able to share a lot more about this situation as soon as I can.”
The "comedic skit" in question was titled, "Through a Pedophile's Eyes."
According to the lawsuit, the other plaintiff John Doe was also allegedly molested by comedian Spears back in 2014 after Haddish had relayed a message to him that he would be taping some king of reel for the Nickelodeon company at his home. Apparently it came about that while they were at his house, Haddish had told Jane that she thought it was necessary for John to be alone with her in another room, where the comedian had then on began to molest John who was just 7 years old at the time.
John had admitted that Haddish and Spears had given him a drink that had made him sleepy and also paid off his siblings 100$ each. "The Plaintiffs were both minors and were incapable of consenting to participate in sexually graphic videos distributed and published via 'Funny or Die's' platform" the lawsuit said, adding, ”There was no parent or guardian present.”
According to another source, Haddish and Spears were being sued for “intentional infliction of emotional stress, gross negligence, sexual battery, sexual harassment and sexual abuse of a minor.” Haddish is also being sued for “negligence supervision/failure to warn, breach of fiduciary duty and constructive fraud.”
Reaction to the skit by the public has been disgust, and Funny or Die says they would never be involved in what Haddish and Spears are accused of.
Haddish's lawyer stated about the lawsuit that the plaintiff's mother "has been trying to assert these bogus claims against Ms. Haddish for several years. Every attorney who has initially taken on her case — and there were several — ultimately dropped the matter once it became clear that the claims were meritless, and Ms. Haddish would not be shaken."
He then added, ”Now, [the mother] has her adult daughter representing herself in this lawsuit. The two of them will together face the consequences of pursuing this frivolous action."
Spears' lawyer also said he "isn't going to fall for any shakedown."
Aries Spears Says his Piece
Spears himself has been short on words about the lawsuit.
On a preview for the upcoming podcast Spears & Steinberg, Spears said he couldn't say much due to the ongoing lawsuit.
Spears said, "This is an extortion case, this is a shakedown and I didn’t need my lawyer to tell me this to say this, but I’m gonna echo her words, ‘we won’t be shaken down.'”
According to the lawsuit, Spears applied massage oil to the 7-year-old boy and convinced him to make suggestive gestures with toys.
