If you weren’t already, it’s time for you to get excited about Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Peter Pan! Why? Well, the network has reportedly cast Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell, and this is seriously the best news ever! Yep, according to Deadline, the Grown-ish star was officially chosen to play the fairy that we all know and love, making her the first person of color to ever portray the traditionally-white character.

But wait, who else is starring in the movie? Will it follow the same plot as the animated cartoon that made our childhoods what they are today? When is it going to come out? And what other new movies does Disney have up their sleeves? Not to worry, people, because we broke it all down for you! Here’s everything you need to know…

What Is The Live-Action Remake Of ‘Peter Pan’ Going To Be Called?

Deadline reports that the new flick is going to be called Peter Pan and Wendy, and that David Lowery (who was previously behind films like Pete’s Dragon, A Ghost Story and more) is directing it!

Who Else Is Starring In ‘Peter Pan And Wendy’

Jude Law

And just wait until you hear who else has been cast in the new movie! Drum roll please… Jude Law (who fans may recognize from his roles in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Sherlock Holmes, A Series of Unfortunate Events and more) will reportedly play Captain Hook! Alexander Molony (who made his acting debut in 2017 and has starred in TV shows like The Reluctant Landlord and Claude) is going to star as the boy who doesn’t want to grow up, and Ever Anderson (who briefly appeared in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, but hasn’t acted in anything else) is set to play Wendy. Wow, talk about a dream team.

A Brief History Of ‘Peter Pan’

Peter Pan and Tinkerbell

Disney’s beloved 1953 cartoon is probably the most popular adaptation of the story (which was originally written as a novel by J.M. Barrie), but there have been so many different versions released over the years. For those who forgot, it was all about a boy named Peter who didn’t want to grow up. After he (and his fairy friend Tinker Bell) accidentally stumbled into a girl named Wendy’s bedroom while attempting to fight his shadow, he whisked her and her two brothers away to the magical land of Neverland. There, they met his friends — the Lost Boys — and uncovered the delights of staying young forever. But when Peter’s nemesis Captain Hook started to cause trouble, they realized how much they missed their normal lives.

There’s unfortunately no release date for Disney’s latest version of the classic story, but we hope they announce something soon!

What Other Live-Action Remakes Does Disney Have In The Works?

Halle Berry

This isn’t the only movie us Disney fans have to look forward to. There’s also a live-action remake of The Little Mermaid coming soon, and we can’t wait! Halle Bailey is going to play the red-haired mermaid, plus, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Daveed Diggs, Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy and Jonah Hauer-King are also set to star in it. Harry Styles was originally being eyed for the role of Prince Eric, but he ultimately turned it down to focus on his music.

There’s also a new movie called Cruella (based off of 101 Dalmatians) coming to theaters on May 28, 2021, and Emma Stone is starring in it! Plus, Disney has announced that Pinocchio, Bambi, Lilo & Stitch, Robin Hood, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Hercules are all getting live-action adaptations too! They also confirmed that there’s an Aladdin sequel and a Jungle Book sequel in the works, and based off how great the first movies were, we know the sequels are going to be epic!

That’s not all. Rumors also hit the web earlier this year that the network is going to remake the movie Tangled, and get this — Dove Cameron even tweeted that she wants to play Rapunzel! Until Disney confirms the news, that’s just speculation for now, but we really hope this is true!

Apparently, Disney is also making a Pirates of the Caribbean prequel that’s going to star Zac Efron! Some reports have claimed that the High School Musical alum is going to play Captain Jack Sparrow when he was younger, and we are freaking out over this! Wow, there’s honestly so many things to be excited about!
