On the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of 2,996 Americans, President Biden and Vice President Harris will observe September 11th in different locations. President Biden will not be present at the traditional ceremony sites but has chosen to commemorate the day at a military base in Anchorage, Alaska. Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris will represent the administration at the ceremony at Ground Zero in New York City.
Vice President Harris arrived in New York City aboard Air Force Two to pay her respects at the National Sept. 11 Memorial plaza, where she will honor the victims of the 2001 attacks.
President Biden, at the age of 80, departed from Vietnam on Monday morning and is unable to visit the sites where hijackers flew planes into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, DC, or the site where United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Instead, President Biden will deliver remarks at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, a military facility typically used as a refueling stop for Air Force One during return journeys. He will address service members, first responders, and their families there.
