It has been a long three years for Prince Harry and his American wife, Meghan Markle.

Ever since the two announced that they would be stepping down from royal duties, it’s been rough sailing.

After settling in California, the pair promised to open up about their unpleasant experiences while living the royal life in the UK – and open up they did.

Some might even say they opened up too much.

But love them or hate them, Harry and Meghan shone a light on some of the dark secrets of the royal family.

In a number of interviews, a documentary series on Netflix, and Harry’s memoir, they have spoken at length about the shady parts of the royal family and how badly they were treated while living as working royals.

Now, though, they’re apparently ready to put it behind them.

Daily Mail reports that the couple has opted to step away from the royal-bashing because, according to insiders, they have “nothing left to say.”

Daily Mail writes, “Now the couple plan to take on roles further away from the glare of the public eye. ‘That period of their life is over — as there is nothing left to say’, one source told The Sun.

The duke and duchess have been mocked on a number of occasions following their very public revelations. This included being featured on an episode of South Park where they were relentlessly ridiculed.

It depicted the pair as the Prince and Princess of Canada – a young royal couple who loudly beg for privacy while drawing attention to themselves. The red-headed prince and his wife, who wears the same dusty pink outfit that Meghan donned for Trooping the Color in 2018, along with a near-identical hat, are seen promoting the prince’s book – Waaagh – the cover of which strongly resembles Harry’s memoir Spare.

They storm off during a TV show after being challenged about their motives, before moving to South Park, with the princess declaring: ‘If we moved here, people would think we’re really serious about wanting to be normal.'”

While the couple’s retirement as whistleblowers is certainly a relief for the London royals, it’s somewhat of a bittersweet moment for fans who have been following the pair.

It seems as though the pressure from the UK has gotten to them and they’re tired of constantly having to defend their reputations and have their experiences called into question.

In the past, Meghan has opened up about the impact that the strain of it all had on her mental health, and it’s likely she’s dealing with a resurgence following recent events.

Those events include a harrowing NYC car chase caused by paparazzi, and then silence from the UK as the royal family seemingly neglected to check on the California royals after the incident.

It’s as clear a sign as any that the royals in the United Kingdom are no longer going to feed the drama beast, and even though Harry and Meghan may have a righteous cause in shining a light on royal skeletons in the closet, they’re now persona non grata.
