Family isn’t always the easiest to deal with. And that’s doubly true if you’re the King of England and your youngest son is the black sheep of the family who won’t tow the family line.

Prince Harry and King Charles III‘s relationship has been somewhat of a mystery over the past few years. While people can speculate based on public appearances and insider rumors, the exact nature of their relationship is kept under wraps. Whether they get along in the face of Harry’s defection or are on bad terms is mostly unknown outside of the palace walls. But one royal biographer says they have the inside info about how Harry and the King interact, and it’s not good news.

Charles Faces Marital Struggles Due To His Youngest Son

People in the world seem to split into two camps: those who support Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from royal life, and those who support the London royals. And the royals themselves seem to fall into these two categories as well, with most filling the latter. But rumors suggest that the newly-minted King Charles III may be trying to keep his feet in both worlds. According to those in the know, Charles is supporting his greater royal family and duties while trying not to lose his youngest son for good.

And that fence-straddling is reportedly causing issues with Queen Consort Camilla, Charles’ wife. Back in May, a courtier who works in the palace spoke with RadarOnline about the King and Queen’s rift. They say that the Queen Consort “went on a rampage” after Harry was invited to Charles’ coronation. The insider told the media outlet, “Camilla agrees with Prince William this was a spineless move and Charles should have banished Harry and Meghan from the kingdom instead — sending the clear message their traitorous poison won’t be tolerated.” They added, “He believes Charles’ decision has weakened their popularity.”

The King is reportedly sick of her behavior, finding it “disrespectful” and “disruptive.” According to the source, the two couldn’t sit for a meal together without arguing. Whether or not that situation has improved with time remains to be seen. But it’s clear that Charles has tried to find a way to appease his family while keeping in contact with his son.

Prince Harry May Be Making The King Miserable

Unfortunately, that effort may be making the King’s life miserable, says one biographer. Royal expert and biographer Angela Levin recently spoke with the media about the duo’s current relationship. According to Levin, “He’s been nagging him for three years now. He rings up to demand apologies.” Levin adds that Harry, “rings up to ask for more money. He just rings up to make his life a misery.”

When the late Queen Elizabeth II was still alive, she counseled Harry on his plans to leave royal duties behind. At the time, Levin says, she told Harry that he can’t have one foot in and one foot out. He would need to make a decision. That decision ended up being that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be stepping down from royal duties. But they would also lose a lot of the protection and bonuses from being working royals. Levin says, “It is so phony because if he treats his own family so poorly, you can’t believe that he knows what a real family is all about.”

Rumors have been swirling in recent days that the new reigning monarch wants to put the family drama behind them. But whether or not that means forgiving Harry and Meghan and bringing them back into the fold is unclear. For now, King Charles “wishes them well” and seems to be focusing on his new duties as King. And Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, for their part, seem to be struggling to make a life for themselves away from London.
