Prince Harry still occasionally needs to connect with his royal family, and he’s relying on Princess Eugenie to bridge the gap according to one insider. Although Harry and his wife Meghan Markle stepped away from royal duties in 2020, familial connections endure. Harry has managed to remain close to his cousins, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice. And to keep in touch with his family in London, Harry needs Eugenie to play a part.

While most people have heard a lot about Queen Elizabeth’s son, now-King Charles, they may not know he has three siblings. Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip, had four children together: King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.
One of those siblings gave birth to a little girl who would eventually become one of the closest friends of King Charles’s youngest son, Harry. Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson had two daughters together, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice. The dynamic duo of daughters are often seen as some of the modest modern and forward-thinking royals of the current generation. They, along with Prince Harry, are often praised by critics of the royal family for bucking stereotypes and promising a different vision of what royalty in England could one day look like.

Eugenie, especially, loves to break down stereotypes. Recently, she welcomed her second child with husband Jack Brooksbank. Instead of going with the stuffy formal announcements and at-a-distance royal approach to sharing her family with the world, Eugenie took a different approach. In a sweet video memorializing her 5th anniversary with Brooksbank, Eugenie revealed the first-ever official photo of herself with her new family of four after they welcomed their second baby in June.
Instead of a formal, posed picture, the snap of the foursome comes at the end of the video and shows them grinning on the beach in regular clothes like a normal family.

And it’s this rebellious modern spirit that makes Princess Eugenie and Prince Harry such great friends. The two are around the same age, and muddling through the same life stages and milestones.
Dr Anthony Wallersteiner, a family friend of the Duke and Duchess of York, is the chair of one of Sarah Ferguson’s charities Street Child, and happened to once be the headteacher of Jack Brooksbank. He recently spoke with GBN over his thoughts on Harry and Eugenie’s relationship post-Megxit. Wallersteiner explained to the outlet, “I think for Harry, Eugenie is his go-to royal.” He added, “I think those cousins are very close, which is good, and I think Eugenie acts as a bridge between Harry and the rest of the family, which is really useful to have.”
His comments come as rumblings out of London suggest that the royal family is worried about information leaking to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that they want to keep under wraps. Princess Eugenie, with her relationship with Harry, could be a prime suspect as a leaker. Her elder sister, Princess Beatrice, also remains close to the rebel couple. But whether or not they’re telling Harry and Meghan anything they shouldn’t is anyone’s guess.
Friends Through It All
What is clear, however, is that Eugenie and Harry have managed to maintain a close friendship despite the furor happening around them. Cousins who grew up as close friends, they now have the opportunity to let their children grow up together. As long as they don’t let the family drama come between them.
