Prince William and Kate Middleton can’t seem to agree on one major plan for their son Prince George’s future. The royal duo usually provides a united front in public. But in private, they apparently can’t seem to agree on some parenting dilemmas. William and Kate straddle the divide between the “Old Guard” Royal Institution and the new-age royals who live life more like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. And as such, their parenting style is an amalgamation of old and new. Which seems to be causing some friction with the future King and his wife.

Prince William and Kate Middleton often get an undeserved reputation for being stuffy or overly formal. And in comparison to Harry and Meghan, they might appear that way. But the duo recently gave an interview with BBC’s Radio 1 that put all speculation of the duo’s stuffy reputation to rest, perhaps for good.

Radio 1 hosts Jordan North and Vick Hope asked the royals which emoji they used most often. William joked, “Is this a clean thing or is this a family one? I’ve been told not to say the aubergine so I’ve got to pick something else.” The future King of England quipped, “It would have been the aubergine but I’m saying now — because I’ve got to be all grown up — it’s the one where the eyes go up and down and the mouth’s out. What’s that one? The slightly crazy one.”

North laughed, “He said the aubergine emoji, this is brilliant!” And Hope joked, “He knows. He’s got a dirty mind.”

Kate’s response was a little less NSFW, but it alluded to her strained state of mind. Kate sarcastically joked, “Mine’s probably going to be the heart with then the crying emoji. The hysterical laughing when things have gone wrong.” Something she seems to be familiar with in recent days.

Prince William And Kate Middleton Are Feuding Over Son’s Future

But it wasn’t all fun and games for Prince William and Kate Middleton in private over the past few weeks. The couple is reportedly feuding over whether or not to send their oldest son, Prince George, to boarding school. It’s a time-honored tradition for well-to-do and royal families to send their children to boarding school for an education in both academics and creating connections.

An online outlet says a source close to the couple revealed that Kate is against sending George away. “Kate thinks sending him to such a stuffy, upper-crust institution goes against all of their efforts to modernize the monarchy. Plus, she’ll miss George desperately. She and William argued about it for years, but he has finally won.”

But Kate’s fight to keep her son home was compounded by George’s desire “to be just like his father,” the insider claims. They say Kate “finally gave in, she’s still heartbroken” over the situation. Sadly, she’s not just a helicopter mom. The source went on to explain, “She was horribly bullied at her first boarding school, and can’t bear the thought of George suffering through that.” Luckily, the boarding school is only a 10-minute drive from where the couple lives now, so they can visit on the weekends.

While Kate may have conceded,  the insider says it “still seems as if her family is being torn apart.” And, “There’s also the worry that William will insist the other two kids be shipped out next. Kate knows this is all part of her ‘royal duty,’ but there’s a lot of tension between her and her husband right now.”

It’s a difficult journey for Kate, but one William seems unwilling to compromise on.
