RHOBH’s Dorit Kemsley Robbed at Gunpoint While at Home with Kids

A nightmare came to life in her home for Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Dorit Kemsley. While sleeping in her home, with her kids snoozing in their rooms, Kemsley had no idea that she would be roughly startled from sleep by robbers who threatened to kill her. Kemsley was left traumatized in the wake of the violent invasion, and ripples of shock are moving through the RHOBH community as people reckon with the terror she experienced.
Robbed at Gunpoint
It was a normal night. Normal sounds, normal everything. Kemsley put her children to bed and then went to sleep herself. Kemsley and her children, 7 and 5, snoozed in their Encino home, expecting it to be the same as any other night. But Kemsley was awoken by the terrifying sight of three robbers approaching her bed, pointing guns are her.
The armed robbers turned the house upside-down for about 20 minutes, a harrowing eternity when you’re in fear for you and your childrens’ lives. The robbers stole Kemsley’s jewelry and handbags, but luckily did not enter the rooms where her children slept, unaware. It seems likely that it was a crime of opportunity. Kemsley had just returned from her nephew’s wedding in London the night before, so perhaps they thought it would still be empty, but it’s unlikely they waited for her to return.
PEOPLE reports, “Authorities told PEOPLE there were no injuries and an ‘unknown amount of property’ was taken from the residence during the incident. No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
Police said the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division is currently handling the case because of its ‘high profile’ nature.”
The Aftermath
After the robbery, Kemsley was left understandably shaken to her core. The robbers didn’t just steal from her, they made her fear for her very life. DailyMail reports, “They grabbed her as as she begged: ‘Don’t hurt my babies. Don’t kill me. I’m a mother.’
To which one of the men responded: ‘Kill her.’”
Luckily, they decided against that course of action. Nonetheless, it was an unimaginably horrible experience and Kemsley was left traumatized. DailyMail adds, “After the intruders left, Kemsley contacted police and her husband, PK Kemsley, who was in London at the time.
She remains at home and is ‘traumatized’ by the incident.
The source said her only focus during the invasion was to protect her children.
PK is headed back to California to be with his wife.
RHOBH was slated to start filming Thursday. There is now a question mark over whether Kemlsey will be moving forward with the production due to the incident.”
Time will tell what happens with the new RHOBH season but for now Kemsley is taking time with her family to recover from her harrowing ordeal.
Other Celebs Whose Homes Have Been Invaded
Unfortunately, Kemsley is far from the only celebrity whose home has been invaded, even if her experience was exceptionally horrible. Other celebrities share the horror of knowing what it feels like for strangers to walk the nearly sacred rooms of your homes and leave you feeling powerless:
- Madonna: This story is more bizarre than terrifying, but it’s definitely unsettling if you’re the one living it. When Madonna was still married to Guy Ritchie, someone broke into their home. When he broke in, he tripped the security system but police couldn’t find him when they arrived because he hid in a cupboard. What did this menacing monster of a criminal do? Tried on some of Ritchie’s clothing. All he stole was a can of Red Bull.
- Fran Drescher: Everyone remembers Fran from The Nanny. Beautiful, hilarious, gregarious; Drescher is a Hollywood darling who went on to have a successful political career. But in her past, a terrifying memory. In 1985, armed robbers broke into the home she shared with her then-husband and high school sweetheart Peter Marc Jacobson. Jacobson was assaulted and tied up and force to watch as his wife and a friend who was visiting were both raped in turn by the intruders. It took Drescher years to recover but she found a way to draw strength from it. One of the attackers was on parole at the time of the invasion and went back to prison for two life sentences.
- Celine Dion: A man broke into the home of world pop superstar Dion. He ate several of her pastries and drew himself a bath. When the police arrived, he was just stepping into the bath and reportedly said, “Hey guys, what are you doing here?” Gee, we wonder.
- Rebecca Schaeffer: Unfortunately, this story doesn’t have a head-scratching funny ending. The up-and-coming ’80’s star was murdered by an obsessed fan who tracked down her home address. After a DMV employee was discovered to have supplied the address to the killer, a law was passed that prevented DMV workers from giving away private info.
Because celebrities often expect their privacy to be invaded, they usually have top-tier security. So most invasions end with curious, bizarre, or sometimes funny stories. But that doesn’t mean it feels funny to the people who lived through it. And sometimes, things take a much darker turn. Hopefully Kemsley will be given the time she needs to recover from her terrifying experience.
