Braunwyn Windham-Burke Confirms ‘Space’ from Husband Sean; Seeing Someone ‘New and Special’

Speculation has been rampant for months that Real Housewives of Orange County‘s Braunwyn Windham-Burke and husband Sean Burke are divorcing. While Braunwyn hasn’t confirmed a divorce, she has confirmed that she and Sean are getting space from one another. Now, Braunwyn is also confirming that she’s seeing someone new and special.
Divorce Rumors Fly After Cryptic Post
As CELEB explored, in late September, Braunwyn posted on Instagram, “New to the co-parenting world? It doesn’t have to suck. It won’t feel like this forever. You just need some perspective… Knowing what to expect will save your sanity.” Fans wondered if this meant she was divorcing from husband Sean Burke.
Although she removed the post quickly, daughter Rowan did not clear things up when she posted an image of herself with the caption, “F— you, mom.” The caption was eventually removed.
Braunwyn did not directly address the posts, but did add to her Instagram story, stating, “Our family asks for your understanding as we work through some challenging circumstances. 45 million Americans will experience mental health issues. This effects almost every family, and ours is no different. We will share with you more when the time is right. We kindly ask for your grace and kindness, and thank everyone for their support.”
Braunwyn Tried to Explain the Marital Oddness as a, “Modern Marriage”
Braunwyn may have addressed the rumors in a recent Instagram post. The mother of 7 shared an image of herself and husband Sean in a pool together with the caption, “Modern Marriage.” While this may seem cryptic, there may be hints in Braunwyn’s past behavior as to what she’s referring to. Braunwyn has admitted in the past that she has treated hubby Sean to threesomes for his birthday, and is honest about the, “openness,” of their relationship.
However, Now We Know the Pair is Getting Space
In an interview with ET, Braunwyn admitted that she and Sean were living apart. The RHOC star even admitted that there may be a new woman in her life.
UsWeekly reports, “The Real Housewives of Orange County star, 42, confirmed the news to Entertainment Tonight earlier this week while giving correspondent Lauren Zima a tour of her new 8,000-square-foot home.
The Bravo star gave showed off her massive closet, admitting, ‘No one’s allowed in here, just me.’
‘It’s actually interesting you say that because as I look around, I only see your clothes in here,’ Zima said. ‘Is any man living in this home right now?’
‘No,’ Braunwyn replied.
‘Your husband’s not living here right now?’ Zima continued.
‘No, he’s not. He’s not living here right now,’ the mother of seven replied. ‘Love him dearly, we haven’t gotten along this well in a long time. We’re redefining what marriage means to us. Not following the old, antiquated rules anymore.’
‘Does that kind of make things exciting?’ Zima asked.
‘So good,’ Braunwyn replied enthusiastically. ‘So good.’
The ET correspondent then asked about the reality TV star’s previous comments about threesomes and noted that one of Braunwyn’s rules for her open marriage is only ‘hot girls’ allowed.
‘I will say this, there’s no other men in my life,’ Braunwyn said.
‘So is there another woman in your life, Braunwyn?’ Zima shot back.
The star only smiled and jokingly pointed back at Zima.”
Someone “New and Special”
Now, Braunwyn is sharing more details about her new, “other half.” Per UsWeekly, “‘There’s someone in my life right now that makes me happy and I smile just thinking about, but I kinda want to protect it right now,’ the 42-year-old Bravo star exclusively told Us. ‘I’m not quite ready to put it all out there, everyone in my life that knows me knows what’s happening. I don’t think I’ve smiled so much. It’s good. I know if you look at social media, it seems really like crazy, but things are really good in our house right now.’
‘I’m not going to worry about the future until it happens. I love Sean. Sean loves me. We have every intention of staying together,’ she explained to Us. ‘We are very honest in our communication. There are just some things that I have discovered about myself that I wanna explore a little more and he’s very supportive. He understands and, you know, I am living a very authentic life right now and I’ve never given myself permission to do that. … I’m 42 and there are just parts of me that … I pushed down and now I’m allowing myself to live authentically.’”
Braunwyn’s Sobriety Must Be Helping
On the season 15 premiere of RHOC, Braunwyn opened up about being an alcoholic. The reality star admitted recently that she was 12 days sober during the filming of that episode, and last week she posted about celebrating 258 days sober. Braunwyn’s sobriety may be a part of why she and Sean seem so happy with the direction their lives are going, divergent or not.
No Plans to Divorce
Braunwyn told Us, “‘There’s just a lot of stuff going on in our lives and it’s better for us to not live in the same house right now,’ she said. ‘And to give you some space, we’re both working ourselves, we’re both in therapy. I want to be the best version of myself, so does he, we have been together 26 years. We’re not throwing that away. You know, we are family. He’s my best friend.’
Braunwyn added that the spouses are ‘living in two homes — we want to stay married.’
She concluded, ‘Is this forever? I doubt it. I mean, my gut says no, but I’m going to live today today. And I’ll worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.’”
Whatever’s going on between Braunwyn and Sean, they both seem very happy with the new arrangement. After 7 kids and 20 years, if living apart strengthens their marriage, then that’s what they should do. It’s good to hear Braunwyn so happy now that she’s sober, and we wish her and Sean all the best.
