Now that the world is catching on to the beauty of classic rock, the music industry has started to see a wave of artists who exemplify a spirit like our favorite classic rockers. MANESKIN is no exception and has made a firm point about their band genre through their music. Not many bands can truly say their sound is 100% unique however it’s apparent MANESKIN may be a band that could claim individualism. Coming from playing on the streets of Rome to booking a spot on Jimmy Fallon is quite a success to the four band members and their “rags to riches” story is what we all love to hear for inspiration. The band was formed in 2015 but was officially deemed MANESKIN in 2016, the key to being official was the name which was chosen in an unconventional way. Lead bass player Victoria De Angelis was asked by her bandmates one day to speak some words in her native language of Dutch and the band’s name came rolling off the tongue. The band’s official name became MANESKIN which means “moonlight” in dutch. The band admits the name has absolutely nothing to do with the genre of their music however the members choosing a name for the sole purpose of entering a contest was a turning point to locking in the band.

Most people may be completely unaware of just how young the members of MANESKIN are which opens up a whole new door for relatability to younger hard rock lovers in the world. Don’t get us wrong, there is more power than can be explained when Mick Jagger sings in his older age but some things are more relatable to 20-year-olds when the band itself is also that age. All four members of the band are in their early twenties and have been a group since high school, only a few years ago for some of the members. The band began to take off once placing second place in the Italian X factor where they were coached by Alternative Rock star Manuel Agnelli. “Chosen” the band’s original song was released during their time on X Factor and since then the band has sold out concerts in countless countries with countless award-winning songs.

More Than an Italian Band

Originating from Rome Italy, Rock music sung by young kids isn’t necessarily the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Rome. MANESKIN is no stranger to hearing these comments and gives a first-hand response to who the band is and what they want to become. An interview capturing the band’s true hearts begins with Victoria De Angelis making a capturing comment, ” I think the main thing we want to express is really the freedom because, especially here, there are not many rock bands. And since we started playing together, we’ve always been told, “This is not going to work. Rock music is not a thing in Italy. No one listens to it. It’s dead. At the very beginning, we struggled a lot finding places that allowed us to play, so we started playing on the streets. Now that I’m thinking about it, I feel like it was really, really useful because it taught us how to be on the stage. We worked a lot on our stage presence because when you’re playing on the streets, you don’t have a real audience. You have to grab people’s attention, so I think that our staging skills come from there.

De Angelis’s comment hit the nail on the head in a harsh but true way, trends and styles come and go but there is always that one moment that changes everything back again. The band clearly wants to be that moment to change the music style in Italy and take matters into their own hands by reviving what has been lost. The band members have stated how impossible it is to become a successful music artist from Italy because of how limited the opportunities are. The team was very humble in saying, “At the very beginning, we struggled a lot finding places that allowed us to play, so we started playing on the streets. Now that I’m thinking about it, I feel like it was really, really useful because it taught us how to be on the stage. We worked a lot on our stage presence because when you’re playing on the streets, you don’t have a real audience. You have to grab people’s attention, so I think that our staging skills come from there.”

A Rise to World Wide Fame

Jimmy Fallon

The band has taken a lot to heart and applied years of street performance do’s and don’t to perfect their craft and truly come together as a successful band and it sure is paying off. The band has recently had some rumors floating around about relationships within the band and fans have already paired who they predict to be dating among the four bandmates. Lead singer Damiano (David) and Bass player Victoria are in the hot seat as fans seek answers about their relationship status. Jimmy Fallon could potentially ask the band about the rumors seeing as Fallon has no chill and is known for getting the T out of the world’s hottest celebs. The band is scheduled to appear on the Tonight Show Wednesday, October 27th, 11:30 ET. The band will step into a whole new spotlight after today’s performance and is one of the top bands to keep an eye out for as the next icons rock band.
