Shakira's Hips May Not Lie

International pop sensation Shakira is once again embroiled in a legal battle over tax evasion in Spain, with authorities charging her a staggering 6.7 million euros ($7.1 million) for her 2018 income. This marks the second set of tax evasion allegations against the Colombian singer in Spain, where she is accused of employing an offshore company to circumvent tax payments.

Shakira, famed for hits like “Hips Don’t Lie,” currently resides in Miami, Florida. Despite her offshore financial dealings, Spanish prosecutors have leveled these fresh charges against her.

Representatives for Shakira have not yet responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on the matter.

These new allegations add to Shakira’s existing tax evasion case in Spain, where prosecutors contend that she spent more than half of her time in Barcelona between 2012 and 2014, accumulating a tax debt of $15.4 million during that period. Shakira, however, has consistently maintained that her official residence was in the Bahamas, thereby absolving her from any tax obligations to the Spanish government.

Her representatives have expressed confidence in her innocence, asserting that Shakira has consistently cooperated with the law and abided by it. They have also highlighted her reliance on PriceWaterhouse Coopers, a reputable global tax firm, for guidance on her financial matters.

Despite the legal wrangling, the Spanish Tax Office has a history of losing roughly half of its lawsuits against taxpayers. Shakira is set to face trial in November, where prosecutors are seeking an eight-year, two-month sentence and a fine of approximately $25 million.

Shakira’s association with Spain stems from her relationship with retired soccer player Gerard Piqué, with whom she lived in Barcelona for over a decade before they separated last year. The couple, who share two children, were romantically linked during this time.

Stay tuned for further developments as the legal saga surrounding Shakira’s tax affairs continues to unfold.
