Please take a moment to try to imagine how iconic it would be if Shawn Mendes and Niall Horan teamed up for a song together. We mean, they’re two of the most talented singers and songwriters in the industry, so seeing them making music together would definitely be a dream come true! Well guys, that may about to be a reality because the two stars just teased a major collaboration, and we’re seriously freaking out about it.

It all started when a fan tweeted, “We want a collab between Shawn Mendes and Niall Horan,” last week. The message must have caught Mendes’ eye because he retweeted it and added, “It’s almost time… What do you think @NiallOfficial?”

“Let’s try,” Horan responded. “Trying would be a lot more than we’ve done previously.”

YES PLEASE. And when a fan responded and claimed that all the singers like to do together is “drink and gossip,” the former One Direction member said that they were “correct.”

Niall Horan And Shawn Mendes Have A Great Friendship

Shawn Mendes Wonder

It turns out, Horan and Mendes are actually pretty close, so it’s about time they make a song together! They first met back in 2016, and ever since then, they’ve been the best of friends. They have been spotted hanging out so many times over the years, posted quite a few epic photos together and even spoke out about their friendship in interviews.

“I love Shawnie, he’s the man. He’s great. He keeps saying to me, ‘I’m so new to this’ and keeps asking me questions and stuff, he’s just a great guy,” the “Slow Hands” crooner said in 2017. “He gets really nervous a lot and I try to chill him out a little bit. He’s 18 years old, we all forget. Just because he’s [like] 6 foot 5 and looks like [Olympic swimmer] Michael Phelps doesn’t mean he’s not 18! I went to watch his gig, and I watched him at the O2 in London, I was like this guy is 18 years old and he’s selling out arenas on his own all over the world. I was proud of him. He’s a good guy. I love that he still lives at home as well, it’s great.”

Plus, after Mendes hit the stage at the 2019 Grammys alongside Miley Cyrus, the pop star took to Instagram to gush over the performance.

They’ve Teased A Collab Before

This isn’t the first time they’ve spoken out about the possibility of making music together. In fact, all the way back in 2016 when their friendship first started, Mendes admitted that he really wanted to write a song with Horan.

“Eventually, when we get time [a collab will happen],” he told the U.K.’s Capital FM. “When we get the chance, I’d love to write with him. I think he’s incredible. He’s got this great, great vibe happening with this whole acoustic thing, so I think I really want to get involved with it if he’s down, which I think he is.”

Oh, and did we mention that when Horan was asked who his dream artist to work with was in 2017, he admitted it was Mendes!

“The fans would love to see myself and Shawn Mendes work on something, so I’d love to work with Shawn,” he explained.

Plus, in 2019, a fan asked the musicians when they were going to release a collab, and they seemed pretty keen on the idea. Horan answered, “We’re going to try,” to which Mendes added, “We ARE going to!” We think it’s about time they finally did it!

Niall Horan Is Working On His New Album At The Moment

Niall Horan

Horan is currently working on his third studio album, so it would be a perfect opportunity for him and Mendes to write together! Yep, for those who missed it, the 28-year-old first confirmed that NH3 was in the works in January 2021, and since then, he’s been pretty vocal about the fact that he’s spending his time in the studio.

But when will it come out, you ask? Well, when a fan asked him about the release date in May 2021, he explained, “I have no idea. I’ve been writing for a long time and just enjoying it to be honest.” He also told a fan in February 2021 that “it’ll be a while” until it comes out.

Hopefully he shares some more details soon! As for Mendes, his most recent LP, Wonder, dropped on December 4, 2021, which debuted at number one in Canada and the United States. Now, he’s gearing up for his Wonder World Tour, which will kick off in March 2022 in Europe.
