It looks like Sophie Turner is not bothered by Taylor Swift‘s new song, “Mr. Perfectly Fine” — which is rumored to be about her husband, Joe Jonas. Yep, as fans know, the “Cardigan” songstress and the Jonas Brothers member dated back in 2008, and their relationship may go down in history as one of the messiest of all time! Now, Swift has seemingly shared some more insight into what went down between them on a brand new track, and Turner made it clear that she’s a fan of the tune.
But wait, what does Swift say about Jonas in new song? Why is she releasing a track about him so many years after they dated? What even went down between them? And where does their relationship stand now? Not to worry, you guys, because we broke it all down for you. Here’s what you need to know…
What Does Taylor Swift Say About Joe Jonas In The New Song?
For those who missed it, Swift announced last year that she was re-recording all of her albums after Scooter Braun bought the rights to her old music, and the first one — Fearless (Taylor’s Version) — is set to drop on April 9, 2021. As a treat for fans, Swift said that she will include six new songs on the album, which were written back in 2008 when she was working on the LP, but never made it onto the final product.
And lucky for us, she released one of them a few days early — “Mr. Perfectly Fine” — which fans are convinced this one is about Jonas.
“Mr. Perfect face / Mr. Here to stay / Mr. Looked me in the eye and told me you would never go away / Everything was right / Mr. I’ve been waitin’ for you all my life / Mr. Every single day until the end, I will be by your side / But that was when I got to know Mr. Change of heart / Mr. Leaves me all alone, I fall apart / It takes everything in me just to get up each day / But it’s wonderful to see that you’re OK,” the lyrics read. “Hello Mr. Perfectly fine / How’s your heart after breaking mine? / Mr. Always at the right place at the right time, baby / Hello Mr. Casually cruel / Mr. Everything revolves around you / I’ve been Miss Misery since your goodbye / And you’re Mr. Perfectly fine / ‘Cause I hear he’s got his arm ’round a brand-new girl / I’ve been pickin’ up my heart, he’s been pickin’ up her / And I never got past what you put me through / But it’s wonderful to see that it never fazed you.”
What Did Sophie Turner Say About It?
After its release, Turner posted a snap of herself listening to the song to her Instagram Stories, proving there’s no bad blood between the ladies. As fans know, Turner and Jonas started dating in October 2016. They got married in 2019 and welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Willa, in July 2020.
“It’s not NOT a bop,” she wrote.
Swift even reposted her message to her own Stories, adding, “Forever bending the knee for the [queen] of the North,” seemingly referring to Turner’s Game of Thrones character.
For those who forgot, Swift and Turner actually appeared on a talk show together in May 2019, and they seemed totally at ease with one another. And a few weeks later, Turner told Extra, “She’s a really sweet girl. We’ve met a couple of times before, we’re [friends].”
What Happened Between Taylor Swift And Joe Jonas?
Back in 2008, Swift and Jonas’ relationship was the talk of the town. They seemed picture perfect at the time, which is why the entire world was shocked when Swift announced on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that the “Sucker” crooner had dumped her over a 25-second phone call.
“You know what? It’s like, when I find that person that is right for me, he’ll be wonderful,” she said. “And when I look at that person, I’m not even going to be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18.”
After their relationship came to an end, Jonas appeared to move on with Camilla Belle. And Swift seemingly wrote tons of songs about the situation, including “Forever and Always,” “Last Kiss,” “Better Than Revenge” and more. It’s also rumored that Jonas’ song “Much Better” was inspired by the blonde beauty, since it has a line about having no more “teardrops on his guitar” in it, which as fans know, is the name of one of Swift’s songs.
Where Does Their Relationship Stand Now?
Years after their messy breakup, Swift brought up the moment she called Jonas out on TV, and she admitted it was wrong. While appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres show again, the talk show host asked her what the most rebellious thing she had ever done was. And she answered, “Probably when I like put Joe Jonas on blast on your show. That was too much. Yeah, that was too much. I was 18. Yeah, we laugh about it now, but that was mouthy. Just some teenage stuff there.”
Then, in an interview a few weeks later, Jonas admitted that he had moved on and that he was totally over it!
“It’s something that I probably was feeling pretty bad about when I was younger,” he explained to Lorraine. “At the end of the day, I’ve moved on. I’m sure Taylor’s moved on. It feels nice and we’re all friends. It’s all good. We were so young.”
Plus, Swift revealed that she sent Jonas and Turner a baby gift in her song “Invisible String.”
“Cold was the steel of my axe to grind / For the boys who broke my heart / Now I send their babies presents,” she sang in the 2020 bop. So despite all the drama, it looks like things are all good between them now!
Why Is Taylor Swift Re-Recording Her Old Albums?
Swift has been embroiled in a feud with Braun and her old record label, Big Machine Records, for years now. When news hit the web that the music mogul (who manages Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande and more) had purchased Big Machine Records in June 2019 — which meant he now owned the rights to her old songs — she was not happy about it. The pop star took to Tumblr, where she posted a lengthy note and claimed that Braun and his clients had bullied her in the past. She also said that she was completely blindsided by the news that he had bought the rights to her old songs. Then, a few months later, Swift sent the entire world into a frenzy when she revealed that she had plans to re-record her old masters.
“It’s something I’m very excited about doing because my contract says that starting November 2020 — so next year — I can record albums one through five all over again,” she said on Good Morning America in August 2019. “I’m very excited about it. Because I just think that artists deserve to own their work. I just feel very passionately about that. Yeah, it’s next year. It’s right around the corner. I’m going to be busy. I’m really excited.”
Now, we are just hours away from her new version of Fearless, and we can’t wait. Will there be a few more songs about Jonas on there? Guess we’ll find out very soon!
