“Literally never thought this day would come, but Sabrina got her license (yep even on Friday the 13th) so all of you that want to make it to 2021, stay off the roads,” she captioned a video of herself driving on Instagram. “P.S. thank you to anyone who’s ever given me a ride. I don’t need you anymore.”
Congrats, girl! It turns out, she’s not the only star to learn to drive late. Although most people get their license when they’re 16 or 17 years old, tons of celebrities didn’t hit the road until they were much older. Whether it was because they were scared to drive, because they failed their test (one big star failed it 19 times!) or because they simply didn’t care about driving (we mean, most of them have their own chauffeurs anyway), here’s all the celebrities who got their licenses super late…
Selena Gomez had a lot of trouble getting her license. When asked if she could drive in 2008, she told People Magazine, “Nowhere close. I don’t even have my permit yet. It’s pretty embarrassing. I had to take 19 tests in California. It’s the weirdest thing ever. I have to take, like, an online course, and then I have to go take my actual permit test at the DMV. So I will take that November 4, but I don’t know. I’m not feeling that confident about it.”
Thankfully, she ended up passing a few years later.
Ariana Grande didn’t learn to drive until she was almost 19 years old! She and her former Victorious coster Liz Gillies went to get their licenses together in 2012, and she took to Twitter at the time to celebrate.
“We passed! #imdrivinghome #watchouteveryoneontheroad Eeep!” the actress wrote. “I drove home and everyone lived! #greatnews.”
Ed Sheeran may have many talents — singing, songwriting, etc. — but driving is not one of them! It turns out, he didn’t get his license until he was 24 years old. “Passed my driving test yesterday, zoom zoom zoom,” he shared in October 2015 on Twitter.
As for his former bandmate Niall Horan, he learned to drive in 2013, when he was almost 20 years old. Right after passing his road test, the “Slow Hands” crooner got a $88,000 Range Rover — wow!
She explained to Seventeen Magazine in 2015, “I’m not mature enough to accept the responsibility of perhaps taking someone else’s life.”
Victoria Justice told Us Weekly in 2013 (when she was 20 years old) that she was gearing up to get her drivers license. She explained, “I’m getting my license. I’m a bit of a late bloomer on that, I know. I’ve been so busy, but I’m so excited to pick out my first car.”
Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards passed her driving test in January 2020 — when she was 26 years old.
“About time I ticked this one off the list,” she shared on Instagram, alongside a picture of her holding up her results. “Coming soon to a road near you.”
Back in 2019, fans were left seriously shook when Jennifer Lopezrevealed she had “never driven a car before.” She shared the shocking secret after her husband, Alex Rodriguez, got her a $140,000 Porsche for her 50th birthday.
“What the hell? What is that?” she Lopez when he showed her the epic present. “Oh, my God! I’ve never had a car like this. I’ve never driven a car, period.”
