Is Taylor Swift gearing up to walk down the aisle with her beau, Joe Alwyn? That seems to be the question on everyone’s minds these days. Well guys, the singer just subtly addressed the engagement rumors once and for all, and it sounds like she’s not getting married just yet.

Why Did People Think That Taylor Swift Was Engaged?

So where did the rumors start, you ask? Well, for those who missed it, the “Lover” songstress recently announced that she was re-recording all of her old songs after a long and complicated legal battle with Scooter Braun. And when she shared a preview of the new version of her hit single “Love Story,” many people though that she threw in a major clue that she was engaged in the lyrics.

Now, as fans know, one line of “Love Story” reads, “Marry me, Juliet, you’ll never have to be alone / I love you, and that’s all I really know / I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress / It’s a love story, baby, just say yes.” But in the snippet that she shared of the re-recorded song, many people thought that she changed the line “Baby just say yes” to “Baby just SAID yes” — meaning she and Alwyn were engaged.

What Did Taylor Swift Say About The Rumors?

During a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the blonde beauty subtly addressed the speculation that she and Alwyn were planning a wedding. Yep, while discussing the process of making her latest album, Folklore, Swift actually referred to Alwyn as her “boyfriend,” not her “fiancé.”

“It was weird because I had never made an album and not played it for my girlfriends or told my friends,” she said. “The only people who knew were the people that I was making it with, my boyfriend, my family, and then my management team.”

Of course, there’s always a chance that this interview was done before he asked her to marry him or that she’s just keeping the engagement a secret, but many people have taken this as confirmation that no, they are not getting married just yet.

What Else Do We Know About Taylor Swift And Joe Alwyn’s Relationship?

So unfortunately, it’s still unclear when exactly Swift and Alwyn officially started dating, but the two stars both attended the Met Gala in May 2016, and some people believe that’s where they met for the first time (although there’s no photo evidence of them even interacting at the event)! Then, in October 2016, they were both spotted at the same Kings of Leon concert (but again, there’s no pictures). But it wasn’t until May 2017, when the first news reports hit the web, that we had any idea that they were dating. And at the time, The Sun claimed that they had secretly been together for months before that.

“Taylor and Joe are the real deal, this is a very serious relationship,” a source told them. “Taylor has flown in via private jets and her security has made it a military-like mission to prevent her from being seen.”

Despite all the speculation that something was going on between them, it wasn’t until June 2017 that the couple was photographed together for the first time. Paparazzi caught them sitting on a balcony together in Nashville, TN, and it was a pretty big deal, TBH. Since then, they’ve kept their romance pretty private — never sharing any pictures about each other and hardly ever speaking about it in interviews — but in January 2020, Swift seemingly spilled some tea on their relationship during her Miss Americana Netflix documentary. She revealed that she fell for her beau after having her now-infamous feud with Kim Kardashian in 2016.

“I felt alone, I felt really bitter. I felt sort of like a wounded animal lashing out,” she said. “I figured I had to reset everything. I had to reconstruct an entire belief system for my own personal sanity. I also was falling in love with someone who had a wonderfully normal, balanced life.”

The 30-year-old continued, “We decided together we wanted our relationship to be private. Even though [my public image in 2016] was really horrible, I was happy. But I wasn’t happy in the way I was trained to be happy. It was happiness without anyone else’s input. We were just… happy.”

Why Is Taylor Swift Re-Recording Her Old Music?

Taylor Swift

For those who missed it, the blonde beauty has been embroiled in a feud with her old record label, Big Machine Records, and Braun for months now. When news hit the web that the music mogul (who manages Justin BieberDemi LovatoAriana Grande and more) had purchased Big Machine Records in June 2019 — which meant he now owned the rights to her old songs — Swift was not happy about it. She took to Tumblr, where she posted a lengthy note and claimed that Braun and his clients had bullied her in the past. She also said that she was completely blindsided by the news that he had bought the rights to her old songs.

A few months later, Swift sent the entire world into a frenzy when she revealed that she had plans to re-record her old masters.

“It’s something I’m very excited about doing because my contract says that starting November 2020 — so next year — I can record albums one through five all over again,” the artist said on Good Morning America in August 2019. “I’m very excited about it. Because I just think that artists deserve to own their work. I just feel very passionately about that. Yeah, it’s next year. It’s right around the corner. I’m going to be busy. I’m really excited.”

Then, after Swift won the award for Artist of the Year at the 2020 American Music Awards, a video flashed across the screen of the musician. In it, she explained that she couldn’t attend the event in person because she was busy working in the studio.

“The reason I’m not there tonight is, I’m actually rerecording all of my old music in the studio where we originally recorded it. So it’s been amazing. And I can’t wait for you to hear it,” Swift explained.

Did She Share Anything Else In The New Interview?

In the new interview, Swift actually spilled a lot of tea on the process behind making her new album, and she revealed that her boyfriend, Alwyn, wrote the song “Betty” with her, which is told from a guy’s point of view.

“He was the one who originally thought of the chorus melody. And hearing him sing it, I thought, ‘That sounds really cool,’” she explained. “Obviously, I don’t have a male voice, but I thought, ‘I could have a male perspective.’”

She also confirmed a popular fan theory — that the song “My Tears Ricochet” was inspired by her feud with Braun and her old record label.

“I found myself being very triggered by any stories, movies, or narratives revolving around divorce, which felt weird because I haven’t experienced it directly. There’s no reason it should cause me so much pain, but all of a sudden it felt like something I had been through,” she explained. “I think that happens any time you’ve been in a 15-year relationship and it ends in a messy, upsetting way. So I wrote ‘My Tears Ricochet’ and I was using a lot of imagery that I had conjured up while comparing a relationship ending to when people end an actual marriage. All of a sudden this person that you trusted more than anyone in the world is the person that can hurt you the worst. Then all of a sudden the things that you have been through together, hurt. All of a sudden, the person who was your best friend is now your biggest nemesis, etc. etc. etc.”
