Please take a moment to try to imagine how iconic it would be if Harry Styles and Taylor Swift teamed up for a song together. We mean, besides the fact that they’re two of the most talented singers and songwriters in the industry, since they dated in 2012 (their relationship is probably going to go down in history, TBH), it would make that collab even more iconic. Well guys, you might want to brace yourselves because fans are convinced that Swift’s next re-released album is going to be 1989, and that Styles is going to be featured on it — so we decided to investigate once and for all.
Why Is Taylor Swift Re-Releasing Her Albums?
For those who missed it, Swift has been embroiled in a feud with Scooter Braun for years now. When news hit the web that the music mogul (who manages Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande and more) had purchased her old record label, Big Machine Records, in June 2019 — which meant he now owned the rights to her old songs — she was not happy about it. The pop star took to Tumblr at the time, where she posted a lengthy note and claimed that Braun and his clients had bullied her in the past. She also said that she was completely blindsided by the news that he had bought the rights to her old songs. Then, a few months later, Swift sent the entire world into a frenzy when she revealed that she had plans to re-record all of her old masters. Then, she released her first re-recorded album — Fearless (Taylor’s Version) — on April 9, 2021.
What Happened Between Taylor Swift And Harry Styles?
Styles and Swift first sparked dating rumors in November 2012, when they were caught wearing matching paper airplane necklaces. One month later, they were photographed holding hands in Central Park, and it was the confirmation that fans were waiting for. After that, they became inseparable. They were caught packing on the PDA all over the city and they even jetted off to London together — so yeah, it was clear they were spending a lot of time together.
Although they seemed as happy as could be together, reports started to emerge that they had split in January 2013. Around that time, Styles and Swift headed to the British Virgin Islands together, but reportedly they got into a major fight during the trip.
“They were on holiday and had an almighty row. They are two young stars at the top of their game so who knows what will happen in the future,” a source told MailOnline.
The blonde beauty was even photographed leaving the trip early, so it looked like some thing had definitely gone wrong between them. Then, in February 2013, while performing at the Grammy Awards, Swift seemed to throw some subtle shade towards Styles, who was there in the audience. While performing her song “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” she used a British accent to deliver one of the lines. And that wasn’t the only time Swift threw some shade towards her ex. Yep, during the MTV Video Music Awards in May 2013, she was caught saying “Shut the f**k up” to Selena Gomez while Styles was accepting an award. Yikes! And when Swift’s album 1989 originally came out in October 2014, it contained a lot of songs about Styles, including “Out of the Woods,” “Style,” “All You Had to do Was Stay,” “I Know Place” and more.
Where Does Their Relationship Stand Now?
It seems like there’s no bad blood between the exes now. In 2015, Swift reflected on their relationship to GQ. She said, “The number one feeling I felt in the whole relationship was anxiety. Because it felt very fragile, it felt very tentative. And it always felt like, ‘OK, what’s the next road block? What’s the next thing that’s gonna deter this? How long do we have before this turns into just an awful mess and we break up? Is it a month? Is it three days?’” And so, you know, I think a lot of relationships can be very solid and that’s kind of what you hope for, for it to be solid and healthy but that’s not always what you get. And it doesn’t mean that it’s not special and extraordinary just to have a relationship that’s fragile and somehow meaningful in that fragility.”
And when Styles was asked about it by Rolling Stone in 2017, he had nothing but nice things to say.
“I think, relationships are hard, at any age,” he said. “And adding in that you don’t really understand exactly how it works when you’re 18, trying to navigate all that stuff didn’t make it easier. I mean, you’re a little bit awkward to begin with. You’re on a date with someone you really like. It should be that simple, right? It was a learning experience for sure. But at the heart of it — I just wanted it to be a normal date.”
He even spoke out about the songs she wrote about him.
“I mean, I don’t know if they’re about me or not, but the issue is, she’s so good, they’re bloody everywhere. I write from my experiences; everyone does that,” he added. “I’m lucky if everything [we went through] helped create those songs. That’s what hits your heart. That’s the stuff that’s hardest to say, and it’s the stuff I talk least about. That’s the part that’s about the two people. I’m never going to tell anybody everything.”
The 27-year-old concluded, “Certain things don’t work out. There’s a lot of things that can be right, and it’s still wrong. In writing songs about stuff like that, I like tipping a hat to the time together. You’re celebrating the fact it was powerful and made you feel something, rather than ‘this didn’t work out, and that’s bad.’ And if you run into that person, maybe it’s awkward, maybe you have to get drunk… but you shared something. Meeting someone new, sharing those experiences, it’s the best shit ever. So thank you.”
Plus, the former lovebirds reunited at the 2021 Grammy Awards, proving that everything is all good between them. The two stars were caught chatting for a while during the event, and seeing them together again was pretty emotional.
Why Do Fans Think She’s Re-Recording ‘1989’ Next?
As fans know, Swift is pretty much the queen of throwing hidden messages and clues into her social media posts and interviews. So naturally, after Fearless (Taylor’s Version) came out, fans started to scour the web to see if she had left any hints about what was coming next.
Upon investigating, fans uncovered quite a few clues that Swift was working on 1989, and the theories quickly erupted. First off, while promoting her upcoming Stephen Colbert interview, Swift posted a collage that contained lots of pics of the talk show host — including one of him from the year 1989. The collage also contained a picture of a seagull, which as fans know, is the bird that appears on Swift’s shirt on the 1989 album cover. Another reason fans think that she’s working on the album is because she actually teased her new version of the song “Wildest Dreams” (which was on 1989) while promoting the upcoming movie Spirit.
Why Do They Think Harry Styles Is Going To Be Featured On It?
When Swift released Fearless (Taylor’s Version), she included six new songs from the vault, which were written for the album back in 2008, but didn’t make the cut in the end. Two of them had special guests — Maren Morris sang on “You All Over Me” and Keith Urban was featured on “That’s When.” And when it came out, Swift tweeted, “One thing I’ve been loving about these ‘From The Vault’ songs is that they’ve never been heard, so I can experiment, play, and even include some of my favorite artists.” So now, people are theorizing that Styles may make an appearance on one of her 1989 vault tracks.

Well, until Swift announces something herself, it’s all theories for now — but we really hope this happens! We guess we’ll have to wait and see.
