Did Taylor Swift Throw Shade At Karlie Kloss In Her New Song ‘It’s Time To Go?’
Wait, did Taylor Swift just throw some major shade towards Karlie Kloss in her new song, “It’s Time to Go?”

Wait, did Taylor Swift just throw some major shade towards Karlie Kloss in her new song, “It’s Time to Go?” Many fans are convinced that she referenced the model (who used to be one of her best friends, but they had a falling out in 2016) in the track, so we went ahead and broke it all down for you.
For those tho missed it, the musician dropped a new album called Evermore last month. And on Friday, January 8, she released a deluxe version of the LP, which contained two new songs — “Right Where You Left Me” and “It’s Time to Go.”
So is the tune about Kloss? And what went down between the former besties? Well guys, Swift is pretty known for including hidden messages and Easter eggs in the lyrics to her songs, so we decided to investigate, and there are definitely a lot of clues in the lyrics to this one. We also went ahead and recapped the ladies’ entire feud and drama from start to finish for you. Here’s what you need to know…
Why Do Fans Think ‘It’s Time To Go’ Is About Karlie Kloss?
The new song is all about realizing it’s time to let go of someone or something negative in your life. Right after it came out, Swift explained on Instagram that it was about “listening to your gut when it tells you to leave.”

In it, Swift first sings about a romantic relationship that has gone sour. And in the second verse, she mentions wanting to quit a job because someone else got the promotion she deserved.
“Sometimes givin’ up is the strong thing / Sometimes to run is the brave thing / Sometimes walkin’ out is the one thing / That will find you the right thing,” the lyrics read. “That old familiar body ache / The snaps from the same little breaks in your soul / You know when it’s time to go.”
But at one point during the tune, the blonde beauty mentions someone who she thought was going be her friend for life, but then, she found out that she’s not who she thought she was. And many people are convinced that she’s referring to Kloss.
“When the words of a sister come back in whispers / That prove she was not / In fact what she seemed, not a twin from your dreams / She’s a crook who was caught,” Swift sings.

The twin reference seals it.
I saw a video just last week where a casual fan could not tell them apart by appearances.
Fans have pointed out that the two stars look a lot alike, leading them to think that the line, “not a twin from your dreams,” is proof it’s about Kloss.
What Happened Between Taylor Swift And Karlie Kloss In The Past?
Kloss and Swift’s relationship started all the way back in 2012, after the pop star appeared on the cover of Vogue Magazine. During the photoshoot, she she reportedly spotted a photo of Kloss and exclaimed, “I love Karlie Kloss. I want to bake cookies with her.” Then, when Kloss read the article, she tweeted, “Hey @taylorswift13 love the @voguemagazine cover! Your kitchen or mine? :)”

By 2014, they were practically inseparable! Not only, did they share a bunch of super cute pics together on social media, but they were also photographed hanging out all the time in New York City.

In February 2015, they appeared on Vogue together, and Swift dished on how their friendship started.
“People had been telling us for years we needed to meet. I remember makeup artists and hair people going, ‘Doesn’t she remind you of Karlie? God, she and Karlie would be best friends. They’re the same,’” she explained.
Kloss also appeared in the “Lover” songstress’ “Bad Blood” music video, walked the red carpet with her at the 2015 MTV VMAs and came on stage during one of her 1989 Tour concerts.

But things started to turn sour between them in 2016, when Swift became embroiled in a feud with Kim Kardashianand Kanye West. When asked about the drama during an interview, Kloss said, “I think [Kardashian’s] been a lovely person to me in the past. Look, I really don’t know her that well.”
After that, fans started to slam the model for seemingly not having her bestie’s back. But she quickly cleared the air, and insisted that they were still friends, tweeting, “I will not allow the media to misconstrue my words. Taylor has always had my back and I will always have hers.”

However, the last time they were ever spotted together was in October 2016, just a few months after Kloss made the comment, so many fans think that it was part of the reason why they ended their friendship. They had very little interaction online after that (Kloss did post a birthday tribute for Swift in December 2016 and 2017, but that’s about it), which was weird for the girls, since when they were close, they posted together all the time — so it was definitely clear that something had caused them to grow apart.

And in January 2018, Kloss seemingly shaded Swift online by posting a selfie to her Instagram feed and captioning it, “Swish swish.” For those who missed it, Swift was also feuding with Katy Perry at the time, and Perry wrote a nasty song about Swift called “Swish Swish.” So it was very interesting that Kloss chose that as her caption. But in March 2018, when The New York Times asked the star if she and Swift were fighting, she replied, “Don’t believe everything you read.”
Then, in August 2018, the women reunited and were spotted hanging out for the first time in years! They posted a pic together after Kloss went to see one of Swift’s concerts on her Reputation Tour.
“No one puts on a show like @taylorswift,” Kloss wrote, alongside the selfie. “#ReputationTour Nashville was out of this world, I am SO proud of you.”

A few months later, in October 2018, Vogue asked the 28-year-old about her alleged drama with Swift again, and she said, “Don’t worry, Taylor and I are still really good friends.” In March 2019, Kloss also said during an interview, “Taylor is incredible, and I feel really lucky to call her a friend, and she’s one of the hardest working women.”
Despite all of the nice things that Kloss said about Swift in interviews, fans were still convinced that they had a falling out, especially when Swift didn’t attend Kloss’ wedding to Jared Kushner. Plus, Kloss was spotted hanging out with Scooter Braun in October 2019 — just a few weeks after Swift had posted a lengthy note on Twitter, where she claimed that he (and his clients) had bullied her for years.
