Teen Mom Star Amber Portwood Takes a Leap of Faith in Her Relationship with Estranged Daughter Leah

Following along the September 6th season premiere of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, fans all around the nation watched the reality star attend her daughter Leah’s 13th birthday dinner.

The event was completely drama-free with lots of love. Amber decided to make the moment specials and delivered a presented to her estranged daughter before receiving a big hug at the end of the celebratory night.

Making it Work

Amber stated, "We're working on our relationship and I'm being patient, Last year, my daughter asked for space and I'm doing my best to be present for her while respecting her boundaries.”

As the show went on, Leah was seen speaking to her father, Gary Shirley, and explained that she enjoyed her mom’s presence during her birthday. "I want us to be friendly together and not have any issues or anything" she said. "I don't want to have any tension or for it to be awkward with her.”

Leah had added her emotions to all of this. "I feel like we're taking a big step. It is still awkward because I don't know what to say most of the time, but we're taking a big step into having something.”

Amber Feels Good About Where Things are Going with Leah

Amber later confessed that she felt very positive about moving forward in her future with her daughter. "It seems like we're moving pretty close to where we need to get to, "said Amber, who is also mom to James, 4, with ex Andrew Glennon. "We're moving at least. We are just trying still. We're trying to really find where we're at and where we want to be at.”

Amber first starred on the reality show back in 2009 called 16 and Pregnant. She had welcomed her daughter Leah on the premiere of that show. Amber has dealt with substance abuse issues in the past as well as legal issues which have led to the disassociation with her two kids but that never stopped her from loving her children.

Throughout the years, Portwood has taken time to attend rehab and therapy, and she's improving herself every day. Leah, whose dad Gary Shirley is a fan favorite, has borne the brunt of Portwood's struggle over the years since she's the oldest child. But it looks like they're ready to put the past behind them and try for something more positive in the future.

“I really have great kids and I'm blessed because my kids are f–king amazing," she said on Teen Mom. "I'm going to keep fighting for them.”
