Real Housewives of New Jersey‘s Teresa Giudice is in the news again, and this time it’s for an irresponsible decision that could affect many lives. The reality star shared images of her daughter’s Sweet 16 party, and not a single mask was in sight despite the United States being in the grips of the worst pandemic in modern history. Fans and the media have blasted the star for her reckless decision.
Teresa Has Had a Rough Year
However, the separation turned out to be a visible representation of what was happening behind the scenes, and Teresa and Joe announced that they were separating in their marriage earlier this year. Now Teresa has to figure out how to co-parent with a man who can’t live close enough to help with sick days, recitals, or any of the day-to-day challenges that arise with four daughters.
Teresa Throws Her Daughter a Sweet 16
While parenting solo and doing the best she can given the circumstances, Teresa made a decision that has raised eyebrows everywhere. Throwing a party in the middle of a pandemic is risky enough, but Teresa took it even further, and images shared of the party showed no one wearing masks.
According to UsWeekly, Teresa showed that no one was wearing masks or social distancing as the pandemic rages on; “The Real Housewives of New Jersey star, 48, shared a video and photos on Instagram from the bash at the Dream Downtown hotel in NYC, which featured balloons by the Balloon Boss and flowers from Treemendous Florists with a red and black theme.
‘I’m so lucky to be your mom…Happy Sweet 16th Birthday beautiful!’ the Bravo star captioned a video that showed Gabriella surrounded by more than a dozen friends and family members as they sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her beside a black cake from Palermo Bakery. ‘Happy Sweet 16 my beautiful Gabriella! You looked so absolutely beautiful last night celebrating & I’m in awe of you everyday. You are so smart, kind, funny & dedicated to school and soccer, I can’t wait to see the great things you do in the future!’
The only person wearing a mask in the video was a server who handed a candle to Gabriella.”
A Hasty Delete and No Response
Fox shared some of the responses on the original post; “‘Curious to see how many COVID cases will come from this since you obviously didn’t require masks or social distancing,’ one person commented.
Another said, ‘How this whole family hasn’t gotten covid I’ll never know.’
On Twitter, one person said, ‘Yep. And they are filming HW now I think…so are these kids gonna maybe get #sick for a #RealityTV show? @Andy #RHONJ When is enough…enough? #badbehavior.’
‘You’d think someone who knows the pain of being separated from parents and losing precious time with them would empathize with millions of families impacted by the pandemic and be more responsible and less selfish,’ another person said.”
Teresa deleted the original post after the backlash, and hasn’t responded directly to any criticism. The RHONJ star has continued to post about Gabriella’s party.
Could Teresa Face Legal Troubles?
New York state law requires anyone over the age of two who can medically tolerate a mask to wear them in public gatherings. With Teresa clearly flouting the law, could the family face penalties? Since it was held in a private location, probably not. However, it should be noted that health experts still recommend limiting gathering sizes, wearing masks, and maintaining social distancing of at least 6 feet. None of those precautions were present at Gabriella’s party. Parenting solo doesn’t excuse behavior that puts lives and risks, and Teresa will need to address her decision as fans continue to press for an explanation.
