Texas couple Katharine McClain and John McClain share three children and something else in common: they're both heroes.
The couple became the unlikely saviors of a baby abandoned on their property, and it was pure luck or instinct that led them to her rescue.

OMG y’all!!!! After catching someone on camera lurking around our vehicles, then stole my neighbors truck, about 3 hours…

Katharine, who is 52 years old and her husband, John, who is 54 years old, shared with USA Today this past Monday that they woke up early this past Saturday to the sound of a big truck driving away from their home in Livingston, which is a small town about 70 miles northeast outside of Houston, Texas.
They decided that it was the right thing to do to check the security camera on their home and they saw a shirtless man checking their vehicle doors and eventually later learned that someone stole their neighbor’s truck.
When the sun started to rise, they shared that the couple’s dog, Archie, led them to something even crazier when they heard a baby crying in their outdoor shed. Katharine shared, "My dog was barking around the shed and my husband went out there to see what was going on…. opened the door and the baby was laying on the floor," said Katharine McClain, a U.S. Army veteran. "She had on a little dress and no diaper."
She then shared that she picked up the baby and wrapped them in a towel after her husband said to call the police. "I don’t have words to explain my reaction," said Katharine McClain, who shares 15-year-old twins and a 17-year-old son with her husband. "Never been more worried or scared for a baby in all my life. Just complete and utter sorrow for her with the unknown of what had or may have happened to her.”
Social Media Hails the Pair for Their Quick-Thinking and “Right Time, Right Place” Luck
At the time of Today's publication, the Livingston Police Department could not be reached immediately for comment on the case. Authorities later stated that the McClain’s stolen truck was found later on with the child’s father behind the wheel.
Records show that he had been booked on other charges in the past, including abandoning another child and with also endangering them. Officials stated that the vehicle was found abandoned near railroad tracks.
After the police took the baby, Katharine learned this past Monday that the baby, who we learned to be only nine months old, was back with her mother.
People all across social media praised the McClain’s for being heroic during a time when they did not have to be.
When she first found the baby, Katharine posted a few images of her on Facebook along with the caption, "OMG y’all!!!! After catching someone on camera lurking around our vehicles, then stole my neighbors truck, about 3 hours later, my husband walks to his shed, opens it, and find a baby laying on the floor!!! About 6-8 months old! Y’all, I can’t!! I’m so freaked out!! Someone must’ve put her in there around then! Called 911 & the ambulance came to get her to get her life flighted!! She was alert but bruised up. Bless her heart!! I pray she wasn’t abused. Poor baby girl."
Comments of support flowed in, such as one user who wrote, "Oh no!! Who would do something like that to such a young, sweet baby?? So thankful ya'll found her when you did."
Others asked for updates, or told the McClains that they were heroes for finding her when they did.
Katharine did later post an update, writing, "Ok y’all…I have somewhat of an update. Truck & thief/kidnapper was found. Apparently this man put this baby girl in our shed at 3:30 am. Stayed in there for about 3 hours, left the shed, stole my neighbors truck and hauled butt. Around 9:30, our dog started sniffing & barking around the shed so John went to open it & there was this precious little baby girl on her belly looking up at us. We called 911. She was pretty bruised up. Possible broken femur. I’m completely distraught over this. They life flighted the baby girl to Houston. A little later they caught the guy & found the truck & apparently he mentioned there was another baby. So we all went crazy searching for another baby. Couldn’t find anything. So now we just wait & hope for an update. I’m still in shock cuz nothing like this happens around here. I’m just happy that he left her there for us to find to get her some help. I don’t know if this is his baby or if she was kidnapped. All I know is she was dehydrated & skinny. When I held her she just sank into my arms. I could feel her totally relax when I held her. She knew she was finally safe. I can’t even imagine what she’s been through. Bless her sweet heart. Sorry if I haven’t responded to all your messages. Keep this baby in your prayers yall!!"
It's a sad situation all around, but it could have ended in tragedy. As it is, the baby will have a chance to heal in her mother's care – and the McClains will probably always keep an eye on their security camera.
