Did The Weeknd Include A Selena Gomez Lookalike In His New Music Video?
For those who missed it, the music video premiered on January 5, 2021, and many people were quick to notice that at one point in it, the video showed a brunette girl who resembled the “Rare” songstress. First, it showed her with her hair slicked back into a bun, wearing a similar dress and almost the exact same earrings that Gomez wore to the at the American Music Awards in 2014. Then, it showed the woman again, and this time she had super curly locks and bangs, and many people compared her look to Gomez’s in her “Dance Again” music video.

What Is The Song About?
Many people have taken this as confirmation that the song was inspired by his relationship with the former Disney actress. The song is all about The Weeknd seeing an ex at a party and being reminded of the pain he caused her.
“I saw you dancing in a crowded room / You look so happy when I’m not with you / But then you saw me, caught you by surprise / A single teardrop falling from your eye / I don’t know why I run away / I make you cry when I run away / You could’ve asked me why I broke your heart / You could’ve told me that you fell apart / But you walked past me like I wasn’t there / And just pretended like you didn’t care,” the lyrics read. “I made you think that I would always stay / I said some things that I should never say / Yeah, I broke your heart like someone did to mine / And now you won’t love me for a second time.”
Is This The First Time The Weeknd Wrote A Song About Selena Gomez?
It turns out, this isn’t the first time The Weeknd has written a song about Gomez. Yep, back in 2018, many people thought his track “Call Out My Name” was about the star, after he mentioned almost “cutting a piece” of himself to save someone’s life. Now, as fans know, Gomez suffers from an autoimmune disease called lupus, which caused her to need a kidney transplant in in 2017, so fans are convinced that’s what he was referring to.
He later opened up about writing the album that song came on, My Dear Melancholy, explaining to Esquire that it was “cathartic.”
“The reason why [the album] was so short is like, I think I just had nothing else to say on this… Whatever… It was just like this cathartic piece of art,” he said. “And yeah, it was short, because that’s all I had to say on this situation.”
What Happened Between The Weeknd And Selena Gomez?
Gomez and The Weeknd first sparked dating rumors back in January 2017, when they were spotted kissing. The two stars went Instagram official a few months later and they made their red carpet debut at the Met Gala in May. After that, they quickly became couple goals. They constantly shared adorable pictures together, walked red carpet events side-by-side, packed on the PDA all over the world, gushed over each other online and supported each other’s work. They even reportedly moved in together and adopted a puppy!
The relationship lasted for 10 months before they split in October 2017. And although a source told People Magazine that their busy schedules was to blame, many people thought Justin Bieber was actually the one to break them up. Yep, just days before the news that their relationship had ended hit the web, the Wizards of Waverly Place alum was spotted hanging out with the “Love Yourself” crooner, leading everyone to wonder if he was the reason they ended things.
Who Else Has The Weeknd Dated?
“My motive was literally to work with her,” he explained. However, when she declined, “I was like, ‘All right, cool — we can meet up face-to-face.’”
Relationship rumors started to spread in April of the same year, after they were caught getting flirty at the Coachella Music Festival.
“They were hanging out in Coachella and were flirting lots,” a source told E! News at the time. “They have many things in common and really enjoyed each other’s company. She loves his music as well. They are hanging out for sure now.”
They seemed as happy as could be together after that, until November 2016 when news hit the web that they had split.
“Their schedules have been too hard to coordinate and he is focusing on finishing and promoting his album. They still have a great deal of love for one another and will remain friends,” an insider revealed to People Magazine.
But their romance didn’t end there! Right after her and Gomez went their separate ways, the “Can’t Feel My Face” artist was spotted leaving Hadid’s apartment, leading many people to wonder if they were back together. Then, in April 2018, reports started to emerge that claimed they were indeed dating again. But over a year later, in August 2019, they broke up again.
“They are in different places right now, physically and mentally. Bella is prepping for her fashion week commitments and Abel is working on his music and his upcoming acting debut,” E! News reported after their second split.
