Whether we like it or not, the influencers currently making waves on social media platforms like TikTok are likely the politicians of tomorrow.

When former POTUS Donald Trump became President, he proved that celebrity can be the biggest selling point for a candidate’s platform.

And what celebrities have more pull these days than influencers?

It’s a controversial take, no doubt. One of CELEB’s editors recently found a rousing online discussion about whether or not influencers have “real” jobs, and “real” skills.

But let’s look at it objectively.

First – content creators are producing content. That means they’re creating a product. It’s not a tangible product, like food, merchandise, or a car – although plenty of influencers sell plenty of all three.

But they’re still creating something significant, whether or not it’s our cup of tea.

And they have to learn to market themselves. Most influencers get started as teenagers, which means they’re growing up with the skill of marketing their content and honing their image.

It’s an extension of what every job seeker learns as they go through the process of finding a career – but these people do it every day, over and over. They carefully manage their image, curate their content to their audience’s likes and dislikes, and find a way to turn their content into a vehicle to make money.

A lot of money. Mr Beast, anyone?

So what about that isn’t a “real” job? Exactly.

Here are some compelling reasons why today’s influencers are likely to become tomorrow’s politicians – and why that might not be a bad thing:

  1. The Rise of Social Media Powerhouses: In recent years, social media platforms have become powerhouses in shaping public opinion. Among them, TikTok has emerged as a dominant force, with its short-form videos captivating millions of users worldwide. With their charisma, influencer status, and ability to connect with diverse audiences, TikTok stars have all the ingredients to be the politicians of tomorrow.
  2. The Influence Factor: TikTok influencers possess an uncanny ability to influence and mobilize their followers. Through entertaining content, they have managed to build massive fan bases, sometimes numbering in the millions (or tens of millions). These influencers can command the attention of a large portion of the electorate, a power that politicians covet. Their reach and ability to sway public opinion give them a distinct advantage in the political arena.
  3. Authenticity and Relatability: One of the key reasons TikTok influencers are considered potential political powerhouses is their authenticity and relatability. Unlike traditional politicians who often come across as disconnected or out of touch, TikTok stars have mastered the art of connecting with their audience on a personal level. Their unfiltered content resonates with people from various walks of life, making them more relatable candidates for public office.
  4. Breaking Down Barriers: TikTok influencers have shattered barriers that have historically existed in politics. They have proven that anyone, regardless of background or conventional qualifications, can capture the public’s attention and become a force to be reckoned with. This disruption challenges the traditional political landscape and opens the door for a new breed of politicians who prioritize accessibility and inclusivity.
  5. Creative Problem Solvers: Political challenges require innovative solutions, and TikTok influencers excel at creative problem-solving. They constantly push the boundaries of content creation, finding new ways to engage and captivate their audience. This ingenuity can translate into the political realm, where fresh perspectives and innovative approaches are desperately needed.
  6. Youthful Energy and Activism: TikTok is a platform dominated by the younger generation, and the issues that resonate with them often differ from those of older politicians. TikTok influencers, being part of this youth movement, possess the ability to channel the energy and activism seen on the platform into political causes. They have the potential to bridge the gap between young people and the political establishment, ensuring that the concerns of the youth are heard and addressed.
  7. Grassroots Campaigning: TikTok influencers are experts in grassroots campaigning. They know how to mobilize their followers, drive engagement, and create viral trends. These skills are invaluable in the political arena, where building support from the ground up can be the key to electoral success. By leveraging their online presence, TikTok influencers can rally their supporters, mobilize communities, and reshape the political landscape.

Love or hate them, when we look at today’s celebrities and influencers we are seeing the politicians who will shape tomorrow’s America.

And that doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

Today’s influencers are more tuned in, aware, active and insightful than their parents were at the same age – and there’s a lot at stake. With global instability, climate change, and political upheaval, the time to turn to tomorrow’s dreamers is now.
