Former President Donald Trump held a discreet meeting with Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene to deliberate the prospect of a “prolonged and arduous” impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. These discussions occurred shortly before House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s announcement of a formal impeachment inquiry into the president.
Over dinner at Trump’s private Bedminster, New Jersey, club on a Sunday evening, Trump and Greene exchanged thoughts on their strategy for pursuing Biden’s impeachment.
“I briefed him on the impeachment strategy that I envision,” Greene conveyed to The New York Times. She emphasized her desire for the impeachment inquiry to be extensive and to inflict “excruciating” scrutiny on Joe Biden.
Greene is among several Republican lawmakers whom Trump has privately consulted regarding the potential impeachment of Biden. Additionally, Trump has been in regular contact with Representative Elise Stefanik and conservative House Freedom Caucus members who advocate for impeachment.
House Republicans contend that while serving as vice president, Biden made decisions that benefited and profited from his son’s business ventures. Despite conducting months of investigations, they have not produced substantial evidence to substantiate claims of Biden’s wrongdoing.
In August, Trump expressed his views on the matter via Truth Social, asserting, “Biden is a Stone Cold Crook—You don’t need a long INQUIRY to prove it, it’s already proven.” He urged decisive action: “Either IMPEACH the BUM, or fade into OBLIVION. THEY DID IT TO US!”
Trump’s history of two impeachments during his presidency, along with multiple criminal charges this year, adds a complex dimension to his involvement in advocating for Biden’s impeachment.
