The Charlie Hotel in West Hollywood is one of the area’s most beloved historic hotels. Once owned by a very special Hollywood superstar, celebrities such as Liv Tyler and Kristen Stewart have come and gone through its halls for generations. If you’re looking for a place in West Hollywood to take a break from the bustle, The Charlie is the perfect blend of historic and homey; elegant and comfortable. Here’s a look at what guests can expect during a stay at The Charlie, and why it’s the perfect place to make your Weekend Getaway.
The Charlie: Rooms and More

The Charlie Hotel gets its name from a previous owner: none other than Charlie Chaplin. With charming English bungalow architecture and the kind of guests that make their own history, going to the Charlie feels like taking a step back in time into the Golden Era of Hollywood.
When approaching the hotel, you’ll wonder if you stepped out of 2020’s Hollywood and into Olde England, with exposed dark beam architecture and white plaster walls. Lush English gardens welcome guests to the retreat beyond. Each room has its own name and its own unique designation and decoration – rumor has it, they’re named after famous guests who have stayed there over the years. Names include the Betty (Davis), Marilyn (Monroe) and more. Whether you stay in the queen studio Steve with its own private balcony and kitchenette, or spring for the Valentino suite that spans 2000-2500sqft and offers a private rooftop patio, you’ll feel like the only guest there.
Decor ranges from the cool white and serene to the colorful and elegant, with each space in the hotel uniquely and meticulously crafted to keep that English cottage atmosphere. Dark exposed beams inside and white walls continue that exterior vibe. Stained and leaded glass windows throughout the building will inspire you like the great writers of yesteryear. Homey touches like photographs and throw blankets make it feel like your home away from home.
The hotel staff promises “white glove service with a personal touch,” and guests will find they deliver on that promise.
History From Across the Pond

The Charlie is the intersection of Golden Era Hollywood, and the charm of English hospitality. The hotel’s website shares a brief synopsis of its history; “The Charlie, previously known as The Farm was built in 1924 by Elizabeth Gordon and later purchased and redeveloped by Charlie Chaplin. Each suite is named after a celebrity who once resided inside. After Charlie Chaplin sold the property in the late 1940s it began to fall into a state of disrepair. In 2002 after 70 years of neglect Menachem Treivush, a real estate developer and entrepreneur was inspired to bring back a lost treasure from near collapse.”
The hotel is also ideally located, close to everything you’ll want to experience during your stay in WeHo. Leisure Magazine wrote of the location, “Located in Los Angeles’s popular West Hollywood neighbourhood, the hotel’s location is ideal for any traveler, especially shoppers and foodies, with the address locked between Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard. For those who want to check out nearby attractions, The Grove is a local favourite, with both fast and high fashion shops available for perusal, in addition to dining and a cinema. And, just adjacent to the outdoor shopping mall, is a must-see attraction for Top Chef fans: The Original Farmers Market.”
