Let’s face it, fans of “The Umbrella Academy” have some mixed big feelings about the release of Season 4.
After all, it’s the show’s final season.
So when it finally airs, it marks the beginning of the end.
But of course, on the other side of things – let’s get on with it, already!
So when does the final season (sob) of the series land? Here’s the scoop.
Unfortunately, there’s no official release date yet for Season 4. Which means that we can probably expect it to land in late 2023 or early 2024.
And, to make things worse, there’s no trailer yet – so what we can expect to see in Season 4 is still completely up in the air.
What do we know then?!
Precious little. But “little” is not “nothing,” so grab a pen and take notes.

Here’s what we’ve got so far:
- Filming for Season 4 got underway in February 2023, so things are likely wrapped up or wrapping up soon.
- As far as the people at the helm, not much has changed – which is a good thing for continuity and quality control. Steve Blackman is the one who adapted “The Umbrella Academy” for Netflix, with Jeremy Slater working on development. Blackman continues to work as the series showrunner, and has directed a few episodes – so we can probably expect the same for Season 4. Writers for the next season include Blackman, Slater, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, and Mark Bomback. Cinematographers Neville Kidd and Craig Wrobleski have returned for Season 4, and the composer is Jeff Russo. Paco Cabezas will also be directing at least some of Season 4.
- As far as the cast goes, all the big players will be back. Elliot Page returns as Viktor Hargreeves (Number Seven); Tom Hopper returns as Luther Hargreeves (Number One); David Castañeda returns as Diego Hargreeves (Number Two); Emmy Raver-Lampman returns as Alison Hargreeves (Number Three); Aidan Gallagher returns as Five, and Robert Sheehan returns as Klaus Hargreeves (Number Four). Colm Feore will reprise his role as Sir Reginald Hargreeve, aka the group’s daddy doom. And Adam Godley will return to provide the voice and facial movements of Pogo, the family’s genius butler.
- And since (mild spoiler ahead) they’re now in an alternate universe, Season 4 opens up opportunities for some dead or disappeared characters to return. That means that Cazzie David will return as Jayme Hargreeves (Sparrow Number Six). And since the Umbrella Academy’s Ben finally moved on to the afterworld, it’s likely the Sparrow Academy Ben who will appear in Season 4, with Justin H. Min reprising his role as Sparrows’ Ben. It’s unclear whether or not Sloane will be in Season 4, although since she just abruptly disappeared when they switched universes, we have to get some sort of explanation at the least.
And while the cast has been Fort Knox’ing about the Season 4 plot, there are some things to be gleaned from the series that spawned the Netflix show.
Collider reports, “Season 3 of the show ended with the bombshell revelation that the Umbrella Academy was now powerless after resetting the universe. Many of them choose to take advantage of this new world where they have no powers and try to establish normal lives for themselves. Alison now has her daughter back, and has also been reunited with her husband from the past, Raymond ‘Ray’ Chestnut (Yusuf Gatewood). However, the threat of Reginald and his previously deceased wife Abigail, who now rule over the city the Umbrellas and Sparrows live in, still looms on the horizon. And without powers, our heroes are at a serious disadvantage if they are called to challenge their evil alien adoptive father. The third season also had a post-credits scene showing someone who appears to be Ben on a train in Seoul, though it’s a bit of a mystery who this version of Ben really is since the Sparrow Ben was brought back after the reset as well.”
And, unfortunately, that’s all that we know for now.
But just like you, we’re counting down the days – and running through the reruns – as we get ready for the whirlwind that will be Season 4 of “The Umbrella Academy.”
Seasons 1 through 3 are streaming on Netflix.
