The past few weeks have come with a flurry of revelations from Will Smith‘s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Some have accused the Gotham actress of oversharing. Yet others are grateful for her openness, and say that her upcoming memoir revelations help explain some of the mysteries surrounding her marriage to Will. Throughout all of the shocking moments and cringeworthy overshares, Will himself has stayed silent. However, he has finally responded. And his response may surprise you.
Jada’s Mom Defends Her: You Didn’t Cheat On Will
As Jada Pinkett Smith engages in a whirlwind press tour for her upcoming memoir, Worthy, she’s having to fight a headwind of public image. Some people find themselves empathizing with the actress, who has lived under the microscope and spotlight for decades. Others criticize her for the way she has handled her relationship with Will.
But throughout it all, Jada seems focused on telling her story the way she wants to. And in a recent interview about that effort, Jada brought her mom – Adrienne Banfield Norris – on an episode of TalkShopLive over the weekend. Noriss aimed to clear up “vitriol” aimed at Jada, she said; “I just wanted to say when you guys decided to separate that was a decision that both of you made. You both separated. You did not cheat on Will.”
Jada agreed, explaining, “I just need people to know ok I did not cheat on Will Smith. No matter how sad he looked at that table.” She later added that she’s in a place of “happiness.” She then concluded, “As far as Will, my relationship with him, you know, we went through that long period of separation… in order for us to journey separately and do some journeying together. And it just seems as though we’ve come to a really, really beautiful place together. “

Jada Pinkett Smith also recently appeared on an episode of On Purpose With Jay Shetty. There, Shetty read aloud from a letter that Will Smith sent to his wife. Shetty read, “I applaud and honor you. If I had read this book 30 years ago, I definitely would’ve hugged you more. I’ll start now. Welcome to the authors’ club. I love you endlessly. Now go get some Merlot and take a rest.”
Jada laughed at that, responding, “He knows I can’t have no Merlot.” She then mused, “That’s beautiful. That’s why I can’t divorce that joker.”
And over the weekend, The New York Times says they received a message from Will. Addressing the furor over his relationship with Jada, Will told the outlet, “When you’ve been with someone for more than half of your life, a sort of emotional blindness sets in, and you can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties.”
Also over the weekend, Will Smith posted to Instagram a video showing him lying down on a boat. A voiceover is saying, “Fun fact about me: I can take a nap almost anywhere.” Notification bells can be heard going off.
