Following his retirement from the NFL, Tom Brady has shifted into the world of basketball by acquiring ownership of a WNBA team, the Las Vegas Aces. Both Brady and members of the team have shared the excitement over this next endeavor for the former quarterback and are anticipating a greater union.

A Family Of Athletes

When announcing the news on Twitter, Brady explained that his interest in women’s sports was instigated as a child, growing up with three older sisters. “They were role models to me,” he shared, and “were all incredible athletes in their own right.”

Maureen, Brady’s oldest sister, was an All-American softball pitcher at Fresno State University and was later inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame.

Nancy, who is a year older than Brady, earned a scholarship to play softball at UC Berkley. And, Julie, earned her spot on the soccer team at St. Mary’s College as a walk-on and earned herself a scholarship later on.

Each Brady child made a decision to excel in sports on their own. Tom Brady Sr. told the Eagle Tribune in 2016, “Whether it was guitar, ballet, piano … we wanted them to try everything. But all of them always seemed to move toward sports, which was fine with Galynn and myself. We were both sports nuts.”

Brady Sr. even took responsibility for encouraging competition between the siblings saying, I started it. Everything we did, and I mean everything, like running home from church, throwing a rock the farthest.” He continued, “Everything was a competition. I guess it made things really fun, at least for the winner.”

The WNBA Welcomes Brady

Brady announced the news on Twitter yesterday saying, “I am very excited to be part of the Las Vegas Aces organization.” He continued, “I have always been a huge fan of women’s sports, and I admire the work that the Aces’ players, staff, and the WNBA continue to do to grow the sport and empower future generations of athletes. To be able to contribute in any way to that mission as a member of the Aces organization is an incredible honor.”

He hyped up the news saying, “It was a matter of a time before I was back in a building with some of the greatest athletes in the world.”

He continued to gush, “I can’t wait to watch these amazing, talented players bring another championship to Las Vegas.”

Mark Davis, the franchise owner, also shared positive words about Brady’s collaboration saying,  “Since I purchased the Aces, our goal has been to win on and off the court. Tom Brady is a win not only for the Aces and the WNBA but for women’s professional sports as a whole.”

Both the Las Vegas Aces and WNBA Twitter account welcomed Brady into their world with excitement. Kelsey Plum, point guard for the Aces wrote, “WHAT ISSSSSS LIFFEEEEEEE.”

It looks like Brady has found his next role in sports! We’re excited to see what he contributes to women’s athletics as a whole as well as the WNBA Las Vegas Aces.
